7” BROWN COLOURED VINYL SINGLE (PROMO)

RELEASED BY ISLAND RECORDS

RELEASED IN 1996

CATALOGUE NUMBER: ISC 574/858480-7

Sleeve

A superbly preserved glossy  flip-back sleeve. No creasing, sharp corners, solid edges with no splits. Opening edge is nice and flat. I’m pleased to say that there is no handwriting or sticker marks anywhere. There are some (not many at all) pale marks about an inch in from the opening edge, and just to the left of the “re-issued on brown vinyl” sticker. Other than that the sleeve is super clean. I mention the minuet details for accuracy. This copy differs from standard copies which usually have the one “First time on vinyl..and it’s BROWN” . Here we also have the circular “P – Promotional , not for sale” sticker. All in all it is a very presentable cover, and I’m going to grade it as excellent.

Inner sleeve

N/A. I will be providing a plain white inner with this for shipping purposes.

Labels

Side one:

Beautiful looking. Clean, and fresh. No names or sticker marks. No spindle marks. It grades an easy excellent plus.

Side two:

As with side one. The labels both look almost to be factory fresh. No spindle marks, names or stickers. Another grade of excellent plus.

Side one audio grade

Right, I’m going to be writing notes here as I listen to both sides straight through. It is my goal to be as accurate as possible. Okie doke, here we go. Wow! Loud mix!!, pretty quiet silent lead in. No ticable background noise present. A quick low level pop that sounded like dust. Really good clear audio, with nice bass. Ok, brilliant, a really top sounding side. I’m grading it as excellent.

Side one visual grade

If any marks show up during playback I would have mentioned them above in the audio grading. Both sides retain a good sheen. I can’t see any hard scratches here, there are just a few fine marks, but these don’t make a poor looking side, and appear superficial. I’ll grade this as very good plus.

Side two audio grade

So, what are we going to get here? Loud again, some very low crackle as the track builds up. Not distracting, well I don’t think so. It’s a good sounding track. In the spoken word section I do hear a low repeating click for a few revolves (I think) it gets lost within the snare drum being played with brushes. I mention it for accuracy. Remember I am trying hard to focus on sounds that I are not a part of the original recording. If I were to go on about how good it sounds I’d be here forever. I’m happy with this side and I’m grading it very good.

Side two visual grade

If any marks show up during playback I would have mentioned them above in the audio grading. Much as side one, so another strong very good plus.

Final thoughts

It’s a pleasing sounding vinyl, great condition sleeve. But why brown lol :D

GRADING

I use the U.K Rare Record Guide grading system detailed below.

MINT The LP or single is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT The LP or single shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD The LP or single has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and an occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and contents without any major defects.

GOOD The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

POSTAGE

All records come with a protective poly sleeve, and new white inner. Records are shipped outside of the sleeve within reinforced cardboard packaging to ensure safety during transit.
