Grade: SS, Still sealed in original factory shrink wrap. Shrink is loose in
upper corners. The upper exposed corners are worn.
A few sand grains have gotten underneath the shrink, and there
are spots on back cover near top.
There is a promo stamp under the shrink on back cover. jacket looks
great under shrink wrap, there is a light ring impression, don’t see any
creases or bent corners.

Fontana label, catalogue #: MGF 27547, released in 1966. This
is a hard to find recording, you don't want to miss this one for
your collection!!
Gioconda's Smile, More exotic musical impressions by the World
famous cinema composer: Manos Hadjidakis, creator of the
brilliant film score 'Never on Sunday'. This is the first edition
pressing in the US on the Fontana label, which was
simultaneously released in Greece on the EMI label. This issue
has several things going for it, it is the only release with the
woman cover art, all others have mona lisa cover. It is a promo
edition, which was later deleted. It is the first pressing, and the
only one with the two song titles: The Athletes & The Soldier,
which were not put on the Greece edition. Finally it's STILL
SEALED! What a collector's dream! These hardly ever appear,
and even rarer to find one is such great condition. Don't sleep on
this one!
Long Background story, but worth the time -- a great read, and
then you will understand why this LP is so much in demand right
now and you will understand the creativity that created such a
masterpiece. There is no doubt in my mind, that this LP will only
increase in value and importance as time goes by.
From Wikipedia: "Gioconda's Smile is one of the most famous
albums by Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis. It is considered
one of the classic albums of 20th century music in Greece.
The album was recorded in New York in 1965, with Quincy
Jones as producer. It was first released in USA in 1965 with
twelve orchestral songs, and that same year in Greece, but "The
Athletes" and "The Soldier" were not included.
The album was re-released in 2004, as part of the EMI Classics
series. The album was re-released with a variety of covers.
Except for the first version, which was released in USA, all of the
covers featured Mona Lisa. The cover and, most notably, the title
of the album are explained by Manos Hadjidakis in the
introductory note he wrote for the album:
In the course of a New York City parade, amidst bursts of music
and colours and 5th Avenue flooded with people, I found myself
one Sunday afternoon in the autumn of 1963. Then and there, I
met a little woman walking all alone with a desperate
indifference to what was happening around her; nobody noticed
her, she noticed nobody; she was desolately alone in the
unknown crowd shoving her, passing her by, heedless and
hostile, leaving her to drown in the deep flood of the Avenue,
inside that sea she was following, inside the wind beginning to
blow.
I was riveted there, the only human being who noticed her. I
tried to trail after her and follow her till I could get close enough
to talk to her, without my knowing what I would say to her; but
by the time I 'd made up my mind, I'd lost sight of her. I ran a
little way ahead, stood on tiptoe in hopes of catching sight of her
again, but the big black sea of people had swallowed her up.
Inside me something started throbbing painfully. Without
realising it, I'd come to a stop outside Rizzoli's Bookshop and in
the display window, exactly facing me, was a book about da
Vinci with the Gioconda on the cover. Incredibly enigmatic, she
smiled to me, automatically enlarged to the size of the woman
who'd just disappeared down the street.
I don't know why all these elements became strangely tangled
inside myself, together with an exquisite motif by Vivaldi, which
I had heard several days before this and which had continued
ever since plaguing my memory tyranically.
These ten songs were composed with a blend of despair and
reminiscences. The theme is a solitary woman in the big city.
Each song is a monologue of hers and all the songs together
compose her story. A story which is modern and, yet at the same
time, old."

GRADINGSS (Still Sealed): Album is still sealed in ORIGINAL factory shrink wrap, it is unopened, record and sleeve should be near mint.
M (Mint): Cover shows no signs of wear or rings, shrink wrap removed, but record never played, perfection. We seldom use this grade.
M- / NM (Near Mint): Cover shows very minor signs of wear, no creases, no rings or split seams, the record can have a few scuffs or tiny light scratches, but it plays perfectly with no surface noise, the label is clean and unmarked.
VG++ / EX (Excellent): Cover shows slight ring, corner creases or edge wear, no wrinkles, puckers or seam splits, no writing on cover. Disc should have 6 or less fine scratches or scuffs , may have writing on label, and should play with hardly any surface noise. The condition of this vinyl is excellent. No skips!
VG+ (Very Good Plus): Cover is clean and will have SOME of the following flaws: writing, creases, frayed corners, edge wear, stains, ring, split seams, but NOT all of these to retain this grade. If too many flaws, it gets downgraded to VG. The disc will typcially have scratches and scuffs, good lustre and can have writing on label, but not deep scratches/scuffs that significantly affect audio quality, there should not be any skips. If we detect a deep scratch it is normal we play-grade through the scratch, to ensure we are not selling vinyl that has a skip.
VG,G,F (Very Good, Good, Fair): You will only see this grade for the cover or disc (not both!), when one part of the item in question is in VG+ or better condition and especially collectible. The majority of our vinyl has VG+ or better grade. Flaws will be noted with the grade.
