AUDIOPHILE MASTER EDITION - HALF-SPEED MASTERED*
Grand Hotel is the sixth studio album by Procol Harum. Released in 1973, it signalled a change of direction for the band. Guitarist Dave Ball, who had joined the band for their live album the previous year, left shortly after the photo shoot for the proposed album's cover, to be replaced by Mick Grabham. Grabham's head was superimposed on the front and back cover of the album on Ball's body. Although the band had gone through significant personnel changes in previous years, the band would enter its most stable phase with this lineup.

This is a Half-Speed Master Disc by Sweet Thunder, Edition 15.

WHAT IS A HALF-SPEED MASTERED RECORDING? - Half-speed mastering is a technique used when cutting the acetate lacquers from which phonograph records are produced. The cutting machine platter is run at half of the usual speed (16 2⁄3 rpm for 33 1⁄3 rpm records) while the signal to be recorded is fed to the cutting head at half of its regular playback speed. Using this technique is generally used for improving the high-frequency response of the finished record. By halving the speed during cutting, very high frequencies that are difficult to cut become much easier since lowering the speed lowers the frequency so they are now mid-range frequencies, which are easier to record accurately. The result is a higher quality recording with much more clarity!
