A testament to the strange, strange journey that Prince's career has taken since his seventies debut, 'The Rainbow Children' was perhaps his most ambitious project. A celebration of Pan-Afro-Americanism, Egyptian Mythology, New Age Spirituality and Prince's favourite restaurant this record is remarkable for many reasons.

'The Rainbow Children' marked a new beginning for Prince. The first album in years to feature organic sounds, real instruments, and most importantly released under the name 'PRINCE' it doesn't disappoint. For sheer scope and musicianship the album is very accomplished. Coupled with some of Prince's most overtly political and meaningful lyrics this is powerful stuff... so powerful that it took the songs' performance in the live arena to convince some fans of their worth. Were some viewed his departure from pure pop as a form of heresy, others rightly saw the man simply celebrating his heritage and exploring other forms...

Released in 2001 through the independent company 'Redline Entertainment' the vinyl pressings for this album were very limited. Though the album's collected sales haven't reached anywhere near the standards set by Prince in the 80s the vinyl pressing rapidly sold out. Of course the record is now OUT OF PRINT. This is a truly luxurious package. Two heavy vinyl discs, a BEAUTIFUL thick booklet of art and lyrics, and an expensively printed outer sleeve! Copies have recently been exchange hands for well into triple figures, so I'll start this auction low!

CONDITION OF SLEEVE/INSERT BOOKLET: EXCELLENT. Over all, the packaging and insert booklet are in great condition. As you can see from the photographs the sleeve is still in the shrink (though NOT sealed.)... which means the promo sticker is still present. Accordingly the spine is PERFECT, there are NO rips or creases on the front or rear covers.  The INSERT BOOKLET is IMMACULATE and AS NEW.

CONDITION OF VINYL: EXCELLENT+. Both discs are BEAUTIFUL to behold. The lushly pressed heavy vinyl is smooth and clean through out, with NO scratches, NO needlewear and no obvious markings. There are about four perceptible paper scuffs from removing the discs from the paper inners but these are very very thin and light... they DO NOT SOUND. These are very common marks often found on NEW records, and are absolutely nothing to worry about... indeed they are only visible under strong inspection light. The labels are free from spindle marks. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS RECORD!!
