Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars with its review by Alex Henderson stating: "This album is quirky and dissonant, but it isn't harsh or confrontational. In avant-garde circles, The Cry! went down in history as one of Lasha's finest accomplishments -- and deservedly so". On All About Jazz, Dave Rickert called it "fine free jazz that succeeds at being adventurous without being demanding".

A tough Jazz record to find on vinyl in its original 1963 pressing on the Contemporary label (either yellow or black), but much tougher to find s white label promo copy. (Discogs has a VG+ copy of the black label version for $227, but no promo copies.) Reissue copies abound at much lower prices but they're no substitute for this!

COVER = EXCELLENT; VINYL = EXCELLENT (Just a little below Near Mint, but better than VG+). Comes with original Contemporary Records inner-sleeve which has some wear.
