PRINCE JAZZBO "NATTY PASSING THRU'" (BLACK WAX WAXLP 1), THIS IS THE VERY HARD TO FIND ORIGINAL UK ISSUE OF THE LEE PERRY PRODUCED JAZZBO LP THAT WAS ALSO ISSUED IN A REMIXED AND INFERIOR FORM AS "ITAL CORNER" IN THE US.
THIS IS ABSOLUTE CLASSIC PERIOD BLACK ARK, PERRY AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS POWERS, JAZZBO WAS NEVER A PREMIER LEAGUE DEEJAY, BUT THAT IS PROBABLY WHY THIS RECORD WORKS SO WELL, I ROY OR BIG YOUTH WOULD HAVE BROUGHT TOO MUCH OF THEIR OWN PERSONALITY TO THE RECORD, WHEREAS JAZZBO COULD BE MELDED TO PERRY'S WILL, HIS VOICE BECOMES JUST ANOTHER INSTRUMENT TO BE MIXED INTO THE LAYERS OF SOUND. UNLIKE MOST DEEJAY RECORDS, THE LYRICS AREN'T THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE OVERALL SOUNDSCAPE, THE VERY FABRIC OF THAT PERIOD AND PLACE HAS BEEN CAPTURED ON TAPE, PRESSED ONTO VINYL AND PROVIDES A CONDUIT BACK TO WASHINGTON GARDENS IN THE MID SEVENTIES. THE EASE WITH WHICH PERRY MIXES JAZZBO INTO MAX ROMEO'S "ONE STEP FORWARD" SHOWS JUST HOW SUPREME PERRY'S SKILLS ONCE WERE.

VISUALLY SIDE A HAS SOME SCUFFING AND A FEW LIGHT SCRATCHES, THE B SIDE HAS LIGHT SCUFFING AND ONE OR TWO SMALL, LIGHT SCRATCHES. WHEN PLAYED ON A SENSITIVE HI-FI DECK THE RECORD PLAYS WITH CONTINUOUS , BUT SLIGHT CRACKLE/ BACKGROUND NOISE, THERE ARE ALSO SOME OCCASIONAL SLIGHT CLICKS, THE RECORD PLAYS ALL THE WAY THROUGH ON BOTH SIDES WITHOUT STICKING OR JUMPING. ALTHOUGH THERE IS NOTICEABLE SURFACE NOISE, THE RIGHT DECK/CARTRIDGE IE. A TECHNICS/STANTON COMBINATION MIGHT REDUCE THIS CONSIDERABLY THE SLEEVE HAS SLIGHT RING WEAR, WEAR TO THE EDGES AND A SCRATCH ON THE FRONT (PLEASE SEE SCANS).
