Description
Offered for sale is this pair of vintage all original Vogue Picture records. These are marked as Vogue * The Picture Record/ a Tom Saffady product. I could find no copyright date anywhere on these, but I believe that they were produced in the 1940’s.
They are 10 inch 78 RPM records with pictures on them. I have not tested them (I do not have a turntable) but they appear to only have light surface scratches and no cracks or edge chips are evident.
The first one is a Joan Edwards recording of “What Am I Gonna Do About You” and she is accompanied by the Vogue Recording Orchestra. On one of the outside edges it reads: Licensed for Non-Commercial Use On Home Phonographs Only, Pat. Pend./ P151 (symbol for copyright) SAV-WAY INDUSTRIES, INC., DETROIT 13, MICHIGAN/ R782. On this side the picture is of a couple walking and the man appears to be ogling a woman walking past them. There is also a black and white image of Joan Edwards. The flip side of this one is Joan Edwards’ recording of “Maybe You’ll Be There”, also with her accompanied by the Vogue Recording Orchestra. This has the same licensing and copyright information as the other side. It pictures a rather distraught looking woman looking behind herself.
The other record is The Charlie Shavers Quintet with the title “Musicomania” on one side and “If I Had You” on the other side. Both sides list the Charlie Shavers Quintet members: Trumpet—Charlie Shavers, Clarinet—Buddy DeFranco, drums—-Alvin S Roller, Piano—John Pataker, Bass—Sidney Block. The copyright and licensing information is the same on this one, with the numbers P96 and R756. The picture on one side is apparently a photo of all of the members of the band with their respective instruments. The flip side is “If I Had You” with a picture of a loving couple in the center and a fellow on the right side looking longingly at them.
