Description
Only had a few of these and it's a top Porcupine Tree rarity which only a few collectors will be able to put on their shelves. There is a sad story behind these test pressings, as many of you may know the Gates Of Dawn label was owned by Michael Piper, a guy everyone liked and a dear friend of mine for many years, a key figure on the progressive rock scene. He passed away not long after these test pressings were made, and the LP was never issued as intended on Gates Of Dawn # GOD 014... so only a small number of test pressings exist. I am selling these for his sister, who will get the proceeds from the auction. READ CAREFULLY: these are mint condition, played once by me to judge the sound quality, the reason for this is that all of the small batch of test pressings made had identical patches of vinyl discoloration on them. They do not exist otherwise, and the vinyl grayish discolorations are visually light bands at the edges of the discs, several inches long, an issue in the making of the test pressings at RTI. If you put your head right in the speakers you can sort of hear brief few passing bits of almost inaudible noise only in a bit of the most silent/quiet parts, very, very faint, the test presses sound great. I couldn't hear anything until I put my head right by the speaker. Otherwise they play perfect, of course. It was impossible to photograph the discolorations, due to the reflectiveness of the vinyl. As I said all of the few copies pressed were identical. I sold a few of these in the past, now Michael's sister could use the money from this set she has been holding on to for many years now, so she OK'd me to offer them on auction. If you have any more questions, let me know, they sound great, but it is important that you know about these identical vinyl discolorations which all copies had. I have put the minimum bid low to have a nice conservative starting amount for this special item with a special story by one of the most collectible and great progressive rock bands of all time. The few who got the other copies were very happy when they arrived!
