Some 11 years after it first surfaced, Poolside's debut album returns to stores. Given that original vinyl copies (which like this edition appeared on translucent blue and yellow wax) are hard to find, this is undoubtedly a good thing. Pacific Standard Time is an exploration of what the California-based duo called 'daytime disco', a style of their own creation that delivers a laidback, sun-soaked blend of Balearic, soft rock, blue-eyed soul, yacht-rock, slow-motion synth-pop, languid jazz-funk, nu-disco and acid-flecked early evening psychedelia. You'll find some find songs amongst the 'Holy Ghost go Balearic' instrumentals, not least 'Why You Wanna' and confirmed sing-along 'Do You Believe'.
