WISH YOU WERE HERE A1/B3 (in shrinkwrap + postcard)
On offer here is a very rare A1/B3 first press of this classic LP in stunning condition that for the majority is still contained within the original shrinkwrap. It is very rare to find a first pressing today with the shrinkwrap that covers very nearly all of the cover and especially in this condition. The rarity of this LP is again exemplified by the mother stampers AR1 and PH 4. If you take a look at pinkfloydarchives.com they indicate that this is one of the very earliest pressings. Also included is of course the iconic postcard that remains in near perfect condition. This LP will not disappoint any avid fan such is the excellent quality of the audio and the overall package. What a stunning find!

Visual grading
Under a bright light I could only detect a handful of the faintest of hairlines and obviously there are no scratches to speak of. Visually it is stunning and has that lovely glossy sheen of new vinyl. There are a couple of very small faint marks on Side One but they have no affect on the audio whatsoever. There is also no spindle wear at all which is another indicator that this vinyl has been hardly played, if at all. I have not seen an A1/B3 pressing as good as this in a long time and as my play grading below confirms the audio is almost of Mint standard also.
Play grading
The intro to 'Shine On..' has just minimal static and the audio thereafter is simply stunning. There is barely any interference and the clarity and depth of sound is just phenomenal. It is just incredible to think this vinyl is over 40 years. There is just a hint of static in a handful of places but I only mention that being the perfectionist that I am. As my buyers know I am very honest in my grading as my feedback testifies, and anyway it is so much in the background as to be totally negligible. You often have a little interference on new vinyl so to find a first pressing like this is such a rarity. The beginning of 'Welcome To The Machine' plays perfectly and then about a minute in you can hear a few quiet 'ticks' but in my opinion they are not intrusive and do not mar the listening enjoyment in any way. The track still plays superbly well with again a wonderful depth and richness of sound.
'Have a Cigar' starts Side Two in exemplary style with stunning audio once again. There is no static whatsoever, just 100% music! The intro into 'Wish You Were Here' is just breathtaking. I just cannot believe the audio quality once again. I had my head right up close to the speakers and could not hear any static/crackle at all. The audio is sublime and ranks as one of the best versions of this track I have heard, let alone on an A1/B3 first pressing. It may even be the best! The intro into 'Shine On part 2' is of the highest quality once again and continues in the same way. Absolutely amazing! About half way through I heard four very faint swish type sounds but again is not intrusive, they are not to the detriment of the audio. There are a couple more towards the end but let's face it, the vinyl plays nigh on perfect anyway so it would be amazing if there was no background noise at all! The audio quality throughout 'Shine On2' is still of the highest standard and is still a stunning listen.
In summary the audio on this first pressing would be hard to beat and it is in the top 3 I would say that I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot! With these first pressings the quality of the production is such that the music plays very loudly through the speakers and when you have a vinyl that has been hardly played down the years the quality is just exemplified. This LP will no doubt create a lot of interest as it is so rare to find a first pressing in such lovely condition.
Cover
The iconic cover as stated is still covered in the shrinkwrap accept along the opening edge. There is a small area on the back cover as pictured where it has split a little along the top edge but this hardly surprising after 40+ years! There is a small punch hole on either side so as to allow the vinyl to breathe prior to opening. The cover will therefore be I imagine in near Mint condition as has never seen the light of day. The bottom opening edge has a minor 'pinch' and on the reverse there is a tiny mark towards the top edge. There are no dings along the edges and unsurprisingly the opening edge has barely any handling wear. As can be seen the shrinkwrap still has the original sticker attached and remains in excellent condition with no marks or lifting at all.Inner sleeve
The heavy cardboard lyric sleeve (with cropped corners) is in near perfect condition, one of the best I have seen with no splits at all. It only has a few tiny spots towards the bottom of the lyric side and I think these may have been caused during the manufacture anyway. The 'red veil' side is in absolute Mint condition.
Postcard
The postcard (with serrated edges) remains in first class condition with no creases at all.
