PINK FLOYD "The Final Cut" 1983 UK HARVEST 1st ISSUE A1
STICKERED G/F, BEAUTIFUL UNPLAYED COPY, STUNNING AUDIO
PINK FLOYD
The Final Cut
HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB UK HARVEST (SHPF 1983) FIRST PRESSING (February 25th 1983) OF PINK FLOYD'S VASTLY UNDERRATED, "DIFFICULT" AND TOTALLY MIND BLOWING LP, "The Final Cut" ALL IN BEAUTIFUL, UNPLAYED CONDITION AND DELIVERING JUST ABOUT THE BEST AUDIO QUALITY YOU ARE EVER LIKELY TO FIND ON THIS LP
NOTE ON 'THE FINAL CUT' AUDIO REPRODUCTION: TECHNICALLY THIS COPY IS MINT AS IT HAS NEVER BEEN PLAYED (UNTIL MY PLAY-GRADING), THE VINYL IS UNMARKED, THE LABELS SHOW NO SPINDLE TRACES AND THE SLEEVE AND INNER ARE CRISP AND FRESH BUT...
THIS IS A NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT ALBUM TO FIND IN ANYTHING EVEN APPROACHING 'MINT' PLAYING CONDITION. MANY, MANY 'MINT' LOOKING COPIES HAVE PASSED THROUGH MY HANDS OVER THE YEARS AND I HAVE YET TO FIND A SINGLE ONE WHICH WILL PLAY ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESSLY FROM BEGINNING TO END!!
THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ORIGINAL 1983 COPIES OF THIS ALBUM ARE JUST SO POORLY PRESSED.
THE VINYL IS FAIRLY THIN AND LIGHTWEIGHT WITH MANY COPIES EVEN DISPLAY PRESSING 'BUMPS' ON THE SURFACES (BUT THESE ARE NORMALLY NOT A PROBLEM AND HAVE NO AUDIBLE SIGNIFICANCE).
IT IS THE SHALLOW CUT OF THE GROOVES WHICH PRESENTS THE GREATEST CHALLENGE TO MINT PLAYBACK AS EVEN THE MOST MINISCULE SPECKS DUST CAN SCRATCH THE PLAYING SURFACES - ALBEIT INVISIBLY - RESULTING IN AUDIBLE CLICKING
STILL, TAKING ALL THIS INTO ACCOUNT, THE ACTUAL AUDIO DELIVERY ON 'THE FINAL CUT' IS ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHING!!
THE LP IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL "MILITARY STRIP" GATEFOLD SLEEVE (with its title sticker in place) AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL BLACK POLY LINED INNER (designed for this release), AGAIN, ALL IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION
MATRIX NUMBERS: SHPF 1983 A-1U-1-4 TML-S / SHPF 1983 B-4U-1- 3 TML-M, TML-M (stamped twice)
The Final Cut extends the autobiography of The Wall, concentrating on Roger Waters' pain when his father died in World War II (the album is dedicated "for eric fletcher waters 1913-1944")
Waters spins this off into a treatise on the futility of war, concentrating on the Falkland Islands, setting his blistering condemnations and scathing anger to impossibly subdued music that demands full attention.
This is more like a novel than a record, requiring total concentration since shifts in dynamics, orchestration, and instrumentation are used as effect.
The even bent of the arrangements, where the music is used as texture, not music, means that The Final Cut purposely alienates all but the most dedicated listener. Several of those listeners (including yours truly) maintain that this is among Pink Floyd's finest efforts.
That doesn't make this easier to embrace, of course, and it's damn near impenetrable in many respects, but with its anger, emphasis on lyrics, and sonic textures, it's clear that the album is everything Waters intended it to be
Track Listing:
Side 1: The Post War Dream / Your Possible Pasts / One Of The Few / The Heros Return / The Gunners Dream / Paranoid Eyes
Side 2: Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert / The Fletcher Memorial Home / Southampton Dock / The Final Cut / Not Now John / Two Suns In The Sunset
LABELS: The Harvest Picture labels are in SUPERB condition and have NO wear, NO writing and NO spindle traces. I WOULD SAY THE LP IS UNPLAYED. MINT
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces have their original DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN and are UNMARKED. VISUALLY MINT
VINYL Audio: Technically this LP is in MINT condition (and would be described as such in any record shop, record fair or indeed on eBay - if it had not been played).
As highlighted above this copy displays the common problems associated with playback and has the seemingly inevitable intermittent clicks but after pointing out all its shortcomings the actual audio delivery on 'The Final Cut" is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME (and I don't use that word too often).
The soundscapes PINK FLOYD create on this LP are totally mind-blowing with an astonishing dynamic range and tremendous use of textural/ambient sounds - bomb explosions, fighter planes, clocks ticking, footsteps, laughing, whispers etc.
The audio is absolutely STUNNING - CRYSTAL CLEAR, BEAUTIFULLY RICH and VERY STRONG and the emotion is genuinely profound and extremely moving. The more I return to this LP the more I appreciate that this is possibly their GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT and that's really saying something if you consider the rest of their catalogue. I would therefore critically grade the playback as EXCELLENT+ and I don't think you will find a copy which will play much better
SLEEVE: The original stickered cover is in BEAUTIFUL condition. (see pics). CLEAN and UNMARKED with very little wear to speak of on either the edges or spine. NEAR MINT
The ORIGINAL BLACK INNER SLEEVE is CLEAN and UNMARKED with NO splits and is in MINT condition. CLEAN, SHARP and FRESH
PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE ITEM
THIS REALLY IS A BEAUTIFUL COPY OF AN ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS LP
AS WITH ALL MY RECORDS THIS HAS A LOW START PRICE AND NO RESERVE
