Description
For sale by auction is an absolutely superb near-mint/mint condition copy of the first UK pressing from 1979 of the 'THE WALL' album by PINK FLOYD. It is in such good condition that it looks like it has hardly been played and could be described as a 'final upgrade/archive' copy. It is on the HARVEST label and has the catalogue number SHDW 411. It is a genuine UK first pressing which can be identified by the following as described on and taken from Discogs :
Specific to the first issue sleeve:
Band members are not listed on the inside cover. It only says "Words and Music - Roger Waters. Except..." and "Produced By David Gilmour, Bob Ezrin, Roger Waters". Re-pressings added band member credits and had other minor alterations.
No bar code on the back cover.
The Wall is cream coloured, not true white. The bricks on the front cover are not aligned right to the bottom of the cover on the outside or inside.
Inner sleeves also feature the "Wall" design with lyrics (graphics by Gerald Scarfe).
The track order on the inners is not the same as featured on the album.
On inner sleeves:
© Roger Waters 1979
Pink Floyd Music Publishers LTD. ℗ 1979
Further identification of this version can be seen in the runout grooves where the matrices A-2U, B-2U, A-3U and B-2U can be seen. According to Discogs these numbers would make this copy the FIRST VARIANT of the first pressing.
The sleeve is in absolutely superb, clean, unmarked condition and comes with the ORIGINAL STICKER still attached to the front. There is virtually no wear anywhere on the sleeve - it really is in remarkable, near-mint condition. The original inner sleeves are in similar outstanding condition. Please study all the photos carefully to see the condition of everything for yourself. The labels are in superb condition with hardly any 'spindle trails' confirming that the records have hardly been played. The records are also in stunning condition with hardly any surface marks. They play superbly with only occasional light surface noise - usually just right at the start of a record. Definitely no deep scratches, 'sticks' or 'jumps'. I honestly think that you would struggle to find a better example of this excellent album. The album will be wrapped in bubblewrap before posting to ensure that it does not get damaged on its journey. I will dispatch it in a proper record mailer and will post within one working day of purchase by First Class 'tracked' post so that it gets on its way to you as soon as possible. If you are not happy with your purchase then, on return of the item, I promise to give a full no-quibble refund including the original postage cost which means you can buy with absolute confidence.
Having just listened to the album in full again I feel I should add that, this time, I noticed a few 'clicks' during quiet passages on side 3. Nothing too loud or obtrusive and when the quiet bits are over you can't hear them. Visual inspection doesn't reveal anything other than a few light surface marks from the inner sleeve so the 'clicks' are probably just caused by a few bits of dust in some of the grooves.
