PINK FLOYD THE WALL 1979 US 1st PRESSING DOUBLE LP 12" VINYL RECORD SET + BONUS!!
This double album set was released by Columbia Records in 1979. I bought this new when it first came out. It's been sitting in a record crate for decades, and it's time to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do.
This record wasn't played much at all because I also bought it on 8 track tapes. During parties, it was just easier to pop in the 2nd tape after the first tape played through rather than flip over the records four times.
I did a lot of research on this record because I don't want to state that it's a 1st pressing if it's not (I'm an honest seller just looking to make some extra money on eBay and not rip people off while doing it). While researching it, after doing an advanced search (sold listings) on eBay, I found a few people who paid a lot of money for copies that were LISTED as being first pressings, but they actually weren't.
Here's a few things I found out: The catalog number on the spine of a first US pressing of Pink Floyd's The Wall is PC2 36183. Catalog Number Consistency and Variation While 36183 is the core catalog number, you may see slight variations depending on the release format or specific pressing details:
- Initial Core Number: The number 36183 appeared on the original title stickers and early promotional material.
- Standard Vinyl Format: Most first US pressings are identified specifically by the prefix PC2 36183 on the spine.
- Inside Gatefold Credits: True first pressings do not list individual band members (David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Richard Wright, and Roger Waters) on the inside cover. Instead, they only credit "Words and Music - Roger Waters".
- Barcode: Original 1979 US pressings do not have a barcode on the back cover.
The matrix number PAL-36185 (along with PBL-36184, etc.) indicates an original 1979 US pressing of Pink Floyd's The Wall on Columbia Records (PC2 36183). These early pressings, often mastered at The Mastering Lab (TML) by Doug Sax, are highly regarded for sound quality. Key Identification Points for this Pressing:
- Matrix Identifiers: Runouts typically show "TML-M," "TML-S," or "TML-X"
This record set is a nice looking, solid copy that I feel any collector would be proud to own; the outer sleeve is very displayable and the two record inlays (inner sleeves) are also. They have no rips, tears or writing on them.
The original 4" x 7" paper album title inlay is also in very nice shape.
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING IS A SUPER RARE HYPE STICKER FROM A LATER (1982) PRESSING THAT WAS ONLY PUT ON COPIES SHIPPED TO RECORD STORES SHORTLY BEFORE THE MOVIE OPENED IN THEATERS! SINCE MOST PEOPLE JUST THROW THESE STICKERS OUT WITH THE SHRINK WRAP THAT THEY'RE STUCK ON AFTER THEY OPEN THE RECORD THEY BOUGHT, THIS STICKER IS A GEM FOR ANY PINK FLOYD FAN!!!
**** The vinyl records themselves are in very nice condition. But if you look closely at the pictures of the matrix numbers (in the "dead wax" area near the labels), you'll see that they DO NEED A GOOD CLEANING! I don't have the proper equipment to clean them (I did decades ago) and I'm not willing to risk damaging them in order to make a sale. ****
I haven't owned a turntable for years, so I can't honestly say how they sound. The pictures that I take are an important part of this item's condition, so please view all of them to better judge the its condition for yourself. Also, please message me with any questions you may have before buying.
If you're buying a record to listen to & expect CD quality sound, then I recommend that you spend 2 - 4 times more than what a used record goes for and get one that's still sealed. You'll never be disappointed.
