PINK FLOYD "THE FIRST X1". ABSOLUTELY STUNNING NM SET.

Before I go on to describe this fantastic box-set, I would like to take the opportunity of putting the background details to a most unsavoury selling experience I have had recently. If you take the time to examine my feedback, it should be fairly obvious that I describe my sale items in an accurate and professional way. Every now and again, of course, mistakes can be made. I very recently sold an album to a buyer, (this is the negative feedback there for all to see), and he contacted me after a few days to say that there were marks (non-sounding) on the vinyl that I had not mentioned in my description. As I always do, I offered a full refund (including postage both ways) on return of the album. This buyer flatly refused to return the album, but insisted on a £20 reduction. This I refused and asked for the return before I issued the full refund. At this point he opened a paypal claim against me! Paypal saw through his nonsense of course, trying to get a lovely album on-the-cheap. However, ebay rules say that a buyer can leave negative feedback if he so wishes. Unfortunately the seller does not enjoy the same rights. This moron decided to leave negative feedback. He has not, of course, ever returned the album. I will let you decide on his motives for making a claim and leaving the feedback.

On sale here is PINK FLOYDS iconic box-set, released in a strictly limited pressing of just 1000 copies. The set comprises of the (strangely!) the first eleven studio albums from the band, and is entitled  "THE FIRST X1". 

The set has been played just once before I got it. This was to record to tape and then stored away. I have also played each side just once for recording purposes and to give a sound quality grading. Each of the vinyls is in superb condition, with no signs at all of having been played. I will shortly describe each album in turn. There are some small wear issues to some of the covers. The outer box is in excellent shape and the vinyls are all visually near mint. The 2 picture discs (only available with this set) have a couple of sections with light background noise, very common faults with lacquered picture discs.

So, this is what this set consists of:-

"THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN".

Cover has a 10mm rub area on top edge. Aside of this it is near mint. Vinyl is near mint.

"A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS".

Cover has 25mm rub area on top edge and a 50mm rub area to bottom edge. Aside of these small areas the cover is near mint. The vinyl is near mint.

"UMMAGUMMA".

Double album. The cover is perfect. Grades near mint. The vinyls are near mint.

"RELICS".

Cover has a 40mm rub area to bottom edge. Aside of this it is near mint. Vinyl is near mint.

"MORE".

Cover is perfect and grades near mint. The vinyl grades near mint.

"ATOM HEART MOTHER".

Cover has a 50mm rub area to bottom edge. Aside of this it is near mint. Vinyl is near mint.

"MEDDLE".

Cover has a 50mm rub area to bottom edge. Aside of this it is near mint. Vinyl is near mint.

"OBSCURED BY CLOUDS".

Cover has a 60mm rub area to top edge and a 10mm rub area to bottom edge. The vinyl is near mint.

"THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON".

The cover has a 25mm rub area to top edge. Aside of this it is near mint. The picture disc is visually near mint, but plays with the tiniest bit of background on quieter sections. I put this down to the pressing. Picture discs are well known for not being of the highest fidelity. Sound quality is graded as excellent. Both posters and stickers are near mint.

"WISH YOU WERE HERE".

Cover has a 30mm rub area to bottom edge. Aside of this it is near mint. The picture disc visually is excellent. A mark is visible under the lacquer that causes some light background noise and a handful of pops for around 1 minute. Again, this is a pressing issue. It is not damage to the disc. The postcard is near mint. Originally this album came in black shrink-wrap with the "handshake" sticker on it. The shrink-wrap has gone but the sticker has been retained and is near mint.

"ANIMALS".

The cover has a 10mm rub area to top and bottom edges. Aside of this it is near mint. The vinyl is near mint.

THE AREAS OF RUB WEAR MENTIONED ABOVE HAVE BEEN CAUSED PURELY FROM THE WEIGHT OF THE DISCS WHILE THIS BOX-SET HAS BEEN STORED. EACH DISC PLAYS PERFECTLY (ASIDE OF THE PRESSING ISSUES WITH THE PICTURE DISCS ALREADY MENTIONED). THE DISCS HAVE NO VISUAL SIGNS OF EVER BEING PLAYED. EACH ONE DISPLAYS A JUST PRESSED LOOK. TO FIND A SET IS HARD ENOUGH. TO FIND A SET IN THIS ALMOST UNPLAYED CONDITION IS A RARE TREAT INDEED.

In summary, I would have to grade the box as excellent. The covers vary between excellent and near mint and the vinyl grades between excellent and near mint. I find it hard to conceive that you could find a better set anywhere.

I have no problem at all in calling this very rare item as probably as good as you could find. There is just so little to fault. I am sure that the winner of this will be more than pleased. I am grading this with a little reserve, so the winner will, at the very least, get what they expect. It should actually arrive better than the winner might realistically expect!
