Description

Hi, and welcome to "psych_out!" auctions!!!

I specialize in 50's, 60's, and early 70's records of almost every genre - Jazz, Blues, Psych, Folk, Soul, Rock, Pop e.t.c and everything in between! I've been dealing records for years, but i'm new to the ebay game so i'd like to tell you all of my intentions. I travel all over the UK hunting out the VERY BEST records I can find. Obviously, 90%+ of the ones I can find are completely trashed from the hard living ways and the rock 'n' roll, drug and booze fuelled debauchery of all the wild parties of the times, but the golden 10%? I offer them to all of you serious record collectors out there!!!

I'm going to start by listing 20 LP's a week every Friday and Saturday, all timed to end 10 days later on Monday and Tuesday night. Hopefully after a while, i'll be able to step things up a gear or two in good time. I'll only ever offer THE BEST, MOST AMAZINGMOST IMPORTANTVERY RAREST UK 1ST PRESS ORIGINAL RELEASE RECORDS I can ever possibly find!!! I won't insult you with later 2nd pressings unless they are of exceptional quality and rarity. I'm sure you love good music as much as me, especially when it's a 1st Press LP, direct from the master tape, as the musicians intended it to be heard (none of this "digitally remastered", weak reissued, remixed rubbish from hired hands with one eye on the mixing desk and the other on the clock! If these session men really knew how genius should sound, surely they would've been geniuses themselves?! There will only ever be one Hendrix, and that's just a tiny example).

I intend to become one of the best sellers on ebay and would like to thank all of you potential bidders for your support and taste in music!!! I strictly grade all LP's I list, visually and sonically (on a very lightweight turntable) as customer satisfaction is highly important to me, and i'll always do my very best not to let you down. Be sure to add me to your favourite sellers list and check my auctions frequently as i'll be listing some gems that you just WON'T want to miss out on!!!

I think that's everything, so let the auction commence!!!

Title :  The Pink Floyd - Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Label & year : Original Columbia SX 6157 LP , UK Mono 1967 1st Press Vinyl!!!

Matrix's : Side A : XAX 3419 - 2, Side B : XAX 3420 - 1.

About : Ultra rare Blue / Black 1st Press!!! This psych classic sold barely anything as a Mono 1st Press (stereo was the new standard in '67) and had a very, very small run before being reissued on the black and white EMI label, and is INCREDIBLY HARD TO FIND, especially in this condition!!! This album is SURELY one of the best of all time. It has to be the best psychedelia i've ever heard. If you've never listened to it before, it's guaranteed to blow your mind!!! It certainly showed me just what sort of things are possible with sound. As you probably know, this original Mono Blue Black Columbia 1st Press is impossibly rare, even more so considering worldwide Pink Floyd collectors have snapped up most of them - so when a beautifully conditioned one hits the market, it really is a moment to behold!!! Easily the greatest thing Pink Floyd ever did with every song bar one written by the genius of Syd Barrett, one of music's most notorious acid casualty's. Apparently he's fine now, and enjoys a quiet life tending his garden and watching Cricket. So that's really great, and we should be grateful that he wrote this masterpiece, one of THE greatest albums of all time. This original Mono mix is extra special. Mostly mixed by Syd, you've GOT to hear the "Ever So High" bit in Flaming in it's Mono form, it sounds truly incredible with Roger Waters Bass riff covered in echo!!! There's a number of other differences from the stereo version too such as a growling organ at the start of Interstellar Overdrive, and if you listen carefully to the mono mix of "Pow R. Toc H.", you can hear extra vocals such as a stoned Roger Waters howling with laughter!!! Syd was a true, true genius, and this was his genius album (with a little help from his friends of course!). Absolute timeless classic psychedelic rock LP from this incredible band!!! An astonishing album that really contains some of the best music EVER recorded by anyone, and DESERVES to be in EVERY serious 60's / 70's record collection!!! Don't miss out on this MEGA RARE LP, bid now!!!

Tracklist : Astonomy Domine, Lucifer Sam, Matlda Mother, Flaming, Pow R. Toc H., Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk, Interstellar Overdrive, The Gnome, Chapter 24, The Scarecrow, and Bike.

Musicians : Syd Barrett- Vocals / Lead Guitar, Roger Waters - Bass Guitar / Vocals, Rick Wright - Organ / Piano, Nick Mason - Drums, and Norman Smith - Producer.

Trivia : This was part of a collection of classic albums recorded in Abbey Road in the summer of 1967 - in the studio's next door, The Beatles were building Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and in the next one on The Pretty Things were building SF Sorrow! It's rumored that Syd did this Mono mix by making star shapes on the mixing desk!

The LP :

Labels : Beautiful Blue and Black 1st Press Columbia labels. Both sides are INCREDIBLE with NO writing, NO real wear, and barely ANY spindle marks which suggest you could count the number of plays it's had on just the one hand!!! Close to perfection!!! AMAZING for a 39 year old record!!! Both must grade overall as Excellent++++ if not better!!!

Record : Visual - Spectacular ultra thick 1st Press Vinyl. Nice bright, clean and shiny as if it was just pressed!!! Fantastic jet black mirror like surfaces, it looks nearly UNUSED with NO scratches, scuffs, or marks whatsoever!!! The only blemishes I can see are just a small amount of the lightest, wispy sleeve traces (only visible in MEGA strong light) from where it has been removed from it's cover over the years!!! UNBELIEVABLE for a record of this age and rarity!!! Must grade overall as Excellent++++ if not better!!!

Record : Audio - Fantastic mono clarity!!! It really sounds amazing. The only blemishes I did notice which stop it getting a higher grade was a very quick hop at the beginning of "Interstellar" (though I was using an ULTRA light arm), and about 20 to 30 seconds of low level interference in the middle of "Pow R. Toc H.", it's fairly minor though and doesn't overshadow the music (I had a look at the grooves for this area, and I noticed that they are a slightly different pattern to the rest, which makes me believe that it's the slightest pressing error). Other than that, near perfect with no pops, hops, distortion, clicks, or skips!!! Only the slightest ULTRA low level static which nearly all records have stops it from approaching perfection!!! ASTONISHING for a record of this age and rarity!!! Must grade overall as Excellent if not better!!!

Sleeve : (Note - the yellow on Nick Mason's face in the pic is NOT a mark, just a reflection of the light) Original E.J Day Syd Barrett designed 1967 E.J Day front laminated cover!!! Very hard to find unworn and uncreased, most are spent and torn due to the lifestyles of the buyers of this particular LP!!! This one is NOT and is probably THE BEST I have ever seen!!! NO wear, NO writing, ULTRA strong, and still ultra solid after all these years!!! The kaleidoscope front is NEAR PERFECT with only one or two TINY creases near the edges, and a barely visable ULTRA faint record shape neat the top!!! (I wouldn't even call it ringwear) The back is also STUNNING with NO stains, NO writing, and NO wear!!! Only a couple of minor creases off perfection!!! Must grade overall as Excellent++++ if not better!!!

(Now, there was only ever ONE Blue Black Mono press of this LP, but there is some debate whether sleeves with the small "File under Popular" text on the back are 1st or 2nd Press sleeves. This one does have that text, but a friend of mine who bought his copy within days of it's 1st release also has the text on the back of his. So, i'm led to believe that there must have been two seperate factories printing off the sleeves at the same time with slightly different designs. Even IF the sleeve was a so called "2nd press" (which I don't think it is), i'm convinced that they were still pressed up before it's very first 1967 release.)

Summary : A truly AMAZING copy of this ASTONISHINGLY RARE MONO 1ST PRESS LP!!! Easily one of THE best left in existence!!! Don't miss out!!!
