Description
Firstly, I am NOT a record dealer, but I am a record collector. The LP's I am selling are from my personal collection that I am selling due to a combination of downsizing and upgrading.
Here is a seriously rare original STEREO pressing of Pink Floyd's 1967 debut "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" on the ONE BOX EMI COLUMBIA LABEL WITH MISPRINTED SLEEVE. The sleeve carries the mono playback instructions, yet has the stereo stamp at the top. This LP Is seriously rare, as the only Pink Floyd album to entirely feature Syd Barrett. The LP was first released in 1967 on the blue and black Columbia label. Then in 1968/69 EMI changed over to the newer black and silver labels and at first only featured one EMI box at the bottom, but was very quickly changed to two boxes, giving this particular pressing a very limited run making it VERY RARE INDEED. Not only that, but this pressing was the last to carry the ORIGINAL -1 matrix using the ORIGINAL 1967 stereo mix from the ORIGINAL stampers.
The cover is the ORIGINAL revised 1967 flip-back cover to include the "file under" text at the top. HOWEVER, this cover is stamped SCX6157 with STEREO underneath, yet the playback instructions at the bottom are for MONO!!!! (SEE SIXTH AND SEVENTH PICTURE). It looks like there was a sleeve shortage and the stereo catalogue number was simply stamped on top of the mono one. The back cover is NOT grey but is plain white, another rare feature. This is incredibly rare, as the flip-back sleeve design was soon discarded in 1970, so this may be one of the last ever flip-back sleeved, re-stamped to use up remaining stock! The cover is very clean with NO WRITING, NO DISCOLOURATION and NO SEAM SPLITS. The front laminate retains it's full shine and the spine is fully legible. However, there's a two inch tear at the opening of the sleeve on the front cover (just where Richard Wright's mouth is). This has been discretely repaired by the previous owner, but they decided to try to 'cover it up' further by colouring in the repair with pen. It's not a massive issue, and does little to distract from the over all sleeve, but it needs mentioning. Other than that, there's the usual slight creasing to the laminate in places, but it's still a respectable sleeve. Because of these slight flaws, I'm grading the cover a MEGA STRICT Good+ according to STRICT GOLDMINE GRADING STANDARDS TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT. This record has not been overgraded in any way.
The vinyl has the ONE BOX COLUMBIA LABELS, which are stunning with virtually no spindle-wear whatsoever. The vinyl carries the -1/-1 matrix on both sides, making it the earliest stereo mix. The vinyl looks STUNNING with virtually no marks whatsoever!!! When held under extreme light, a few wispy sleeve removal marks can be seen. I've played this LP all the way through on top quality equipment AT A LOUD VOLUME TO REVEAL ALL FLAWS and it plays all the way through but with constant surface noise. The audio quality is still excellent and mostly drowns out the noise but obviously it can be heard on quieter passages.. As a result of this, I'm grading it a MEGA STRICT Very Good+ ACCORDING TO STRICT GOLDMINE GRADING STANDARDS TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT. This record has not been overgraded in any way. I've fully enjoyed owning this rare album, it sounds great through a decent set of speakers. I'll be sad to see it go.
