More 1G/1G early pressing - Couple facing west)
On offer here is a very early first pressing of this soundtrack LP with the green tinted flipback cover with the couple facing west.
You can tell how early this pressing is not only the stampers but also that there is only one EMI logo on each label. Only the early first pressings had just the one logo on each label.

Visual grading
Overall this vinyl is very clean. Looking under a strong bright light I can detect a few fine hairlines and one small scratch on 'Main Theme' on Side Two. There are no further scratches or marks and this record has obviously been well cared for. There is some spindle wear but for a very first 1G/1G pressing the audio plays very well as detailed below.
Play grading
The intro to 'Cirrus Minor' plays with barely any interference and there are only a handful of very quiet dust ticks prior to the vocals starting. This is definitely one of the best versions of this quiet track I have heard. It plays with just a hint of static in the background for the majority, wonderful quality for a vinyl approaching 48 years of age. No clicks, pops or jumps anywhere. There is just a little more static towards the end but, as I often say, it is not intrusive. 'The Nile Song' plays loud and clear but with some distortion as is common with this LP. 'Crying Song' has only very minor static here and there and for such a quiet song plays with great clarity. There is a little intermittent 'hissing' but it is very much in the background. 'Up The Khyber' plays superbly well with no interference, practically Mint. The only interference I heard during 'Green Is The Colour' is a little more of the hissing but no clicks etc. 'Cymbaline' has very clear audio with only a minor amount of static very much in the background. 'Party Sequence' ends the side with the same quality.
There are a couple of loud pops but this is prior to 'Main Theme' starting. It then plays with a few light clicks for about 30 seconds due to the small scratch. The remainder of the track has excellent audio and no further issues, just a little background static. 'Ibiza Bar' plays very well with only a little of the distortion that is generally prevalent on this track. 'More Blues' plays with great clarity and with only a few light 'ticks' that are very much in the background. 'Quicksilver' for the majority plays in sublime fashion with some light static/dust ticks here and there. For such a quiet track the audio is of an excellent standard. 'A Spanish Piece' has Near Mint audio and the final track 'Dramatic Theme' has a little static and distortion remains an excellent listen.
Laminated cover
The laminated G & L flipback cover is very clean and has only a little shelf wear. The laminate is in excellent order and has been very well maintained over the last 48 years and only has a handful of small creases near the edges. The edges and thin pinched spine are in superb condition with no rubbing at all and only the corners have a minimal amount of wear. There is a small area below the Columbia logo on the front cover where some sticker residue has been left.
The green tinted back cover is very clean and the flipbacks have very little staining. So often you find them in a poor state of repair but not here. The opening edge is also in excellent shape and shows little sign of handling wear.
Labels
The labels (one EMI logo only) are in excellent condition with only some spindle wear. The S2 label does have the initials PAE inscribed at the top but is not that visible as it was written in black against a black background. Around the bottom of the label it states "Made in GT Britain".
Around the top edge - "The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited".
Inner sleeve
The original inner sleeve with the 16 LP covers on either side is in great condition with no splits or tears. 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' and 'Sgt Pepper' are advertised amongst others.
