Description
Just recently I bought a massive collection of 60's and 70's LPs...some are in surprisingly immaculate condition, and some are not, but the original owner (a well-respected Australian vinyl hoarder) was a fastidious collector of the styles he loved - 60's beat/punk/garage, British invasion well-knowns [Beatles/Hollies/Dave Clark 5/Gerry & The Pacemakers/Zombies/Troggs/Rolling Stones, etc..], 70's West Coast sounds, pop-psych and he'd obviously forraged far and wide since there's a flurry of unique South American, New Zealand,Taiwanese, South African, Japanese releases amongst them all.
Here then, is one of the LPs from his collection:
ARTIST: PINK FLOYD -
TITLE: "MEDDLE" .
FORMAT: …vinyl LP…
LABEL: HARVEST [distributed there by Capitol Records Inc. ] .
CATALOGUE #: SMAS-832 .
DATE OF RELEASE: 30 Oct. 1971 .
PRESSED IN: USA .
ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?: Yes, it is...one of several first pressings, depending what pressing plant it was manufactured in. Matrix numbers (both hand-enscribed, not stamped) are:
SIDE ONE: SMAS-1-832-G-24.. 2
SIDE TWO: 2-832-H-25.. 2
...meaning it was pressed in Capitol's Los Angeles pressing plant.
Other idiosyncrasies that determine an original:
Lime green / dark green Harvest labels. The area above the title on label is blank.
Text around bottom edge of label starts at 8 o'clock and says:
Mfd. by Capitol Records, Inc., a subsidiary of Capitol Industries, Inc., U.S.A. - ® Capitol Marca Reg. - U.S. Pat. No. 2,631,859
CONDITION:
COVER: ( EX- )...has light scuffing on edges and corners...and ringwear at top and bottom of back cover...otherwise magnificent!...
RECORD: ( M- )...almost as shiny and pristine and clean as the day it was made, with the sole exception of a single very light 'hair-line' mark only (very hard to see even, it's that insignificant!)...
LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT )...has NO spindle marks on labels...looks like it had never been played, until I just played it now to confirm how beautiful it actually sounds!...
If you have any concerns about the accuracy of my gradings, please check my feedback for the odd nice comment from some satisfied folk out there.... (and hopefully you may be able to join their ranks). Thanks for considering this item...Cheers, Jules.
