PINK FLOYD Dark Side Of The Moon UNRELEASED 1999 Remastered 180g LP With Cover !
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
(Capitol 72435-21690)
Includes gatefold cover and poster insert.
Previously, a few test pressings of this unreleased LP have been sold, but until now a fully manufactured commercial (stock) issue was not known to exist.
Apparently, a small number of copies were pressed prior to its release being cancelled.
We know this example to be 100% genuine, as it was purchased directly from a former employee of RTI, the pressing plant where it (and the test pressings) were made.
The cover is basically the same as other US Dark Side Of The Moon covers except is is thick construction and the back cover has a bar code with catalog number "7 2435-21690-1 6"
printed below it, as well as a small Capitol logo. The inside gatefold adds the print "Remastered : June 1999 by Doug Sax and James Guthrie The Mastering Lab - Hollywood, CA", as well as an additional copyright date of 1999.
The 29.5" x 19.5" (approximately) folded poster insert is similar to the UK "Blue Pyramids" poster except with a tiny printed "PF 2" at the top right corner.
The labels are black with silver print and an outline white triangle. LP matrix info is similar to the final test pressing, which was cut on August 5th, 1999 (there were 3 different test pressings cut). Side one trail-off : 72435-21690-1-6-A-RE2 TML-X 3255.1(3).
Side two trail-off : 72435-21690-1-6-B-RE2 TML-X 3255.2(3).
Reportedly there were minor mastering defects in all the test pressings and for reasons unknown, Capitol Records decided to just cancel the entire project. If there is a mastering error in this copy we have, it is inaudible to us, as we played the entire album one time, which is likely the only time it was ever played. It sounds absolutely incredible!
The cover has some very minor wear at the top and bottom and the near mint condition disc has a slight storage warp, not affecting play.
This is definitely one of the rarest Pink Floyd records in existence!
