Released in 1973, The Dark Side Of The Moon is Pink Floyd's most successful record. When it was being pressed ready for release, the first batch of copies were given a solid light blue triangle. It was soon noticed that the silver printing on the light blue background was difficult to read. Production was then briefly halted and the label was then designed with the later black/blue colouring. The light blue labels were then released alongside with the later designed label. As it was such a massive seller, it can probably be assumed that all of the solid light blue labels were sold on the first day of release.
This record also has the original dark blue sleeve (later pressing sleeves were black). This original sleeve has only one side opening, the left hand sleeve (when open) had an extra edge of card that was folded over and glued to close up that side. Only the very first covers have this design
The record also comes with the two original posters and the two original stickers.
CONDITION
VINYL
The vinyl is in truly beautiful Near Mint condition. I never use the grading Mint, but this is as close as you will ever get. It retains a beautiful vinyl sheen and plays perfectly.
LABELS
The solid light blue triangle labels are clean and bright on both sides. There are NO scuffs, NO stickers, NO writing and NO wear around the centre hole. There is just one small very very feint spindle mark on the side 2 label which can just be seen when held against a certain light. Labels contain the text 'The Gramophone Company Ltd'
INNER SLEEVE
The inner sleeve is the original black Poly-lined inner sleeve with the die-cut bottom corners. It is in perfect condition and contains the small text at the bottom 'Patent Nos' and 'Made In Great Britain'
COVER
This early original dark blue gatefold sleeve is in true Near Mint condition. There are NO scuffs, NO bad edge wear, NO writing, NO stickers. It opens cleanly and is in beautiful condition on all 4 sides, inner and outer. The opening edge is still crisp and sharp.
POSTERS AND STICKERS
Two original posters and two original stickers are all in perfect condition. There are NO tears and NO creases other than the folds when originally folded to put in the sleeve.
This rare and collectable record can hardly have been played to have remained in such beautiful condition. The posters and stickers have certainly never been on a wall.
This record was and still is so very popular that copies found are usually pretty trashed, so such an early original copy as this is indeed a rarity in such great condition.
