The band's most successful release, The Dark Side of the Moon spent 741 consecutive weeks (14 years) on the USA-based Billboard 200 album chart, the longest duration of ANY album in history. Additionally, the album holds the record of spending the highest amount of time on the Billboard charts, staying there for more than 1,500 weeks (that’s almost 29 years). It is one of three albums tied for the claim of second highest selling album globally of all time, selling over forty million or more units. In addition to its commercial success, The Dark Side of the Moon is often considered to be the group's defining work, and is still frequently ranked by music critics as one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time.
Sales of the album worldwide total over forty million as of 2004, with an average of 8,000 copies sold per week and a total of 400,000 in the year of 2002 — making it the 200th best-selling album of that year nearly three decades after its initial release.
A great complete 1st pressing of what is undoubtedly one of the most iconic albums of the 20th century!!!
ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:
Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO
DSOTM is a musical masterpiece and is also famously a very sensitive piece of vinyl. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like ‘On The Run’. I am a huge fan of DSOM, and also a highly critical of the audio performance. I just cant stand to hear a pressing that is worn or plays with anything other than great clear sound. I am pleased to say that this one plays through with great, largely un disturbed audio, and I will give a detailed account below!
This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond . Strong sound free of any loud pops or clicks. Channels are clean and unstressed. It has not been over played. There is some light occasional static at the very start of the record and occasionally after that, but it is light. The occasional very light static tick, but nothing prominent or repetitive or really that noticeable. The audio does has a wide range, on the whole being brilliant strong and clear. I would say it largely plays with EXCELLENT PLUS audio, peaking at NEAR MINT but also dropping to around EXCELLENT minus in a couple of places. (for a coupe of seconds) It is unusual for any vinyl I sell to have such a range, but this is the ultimate 1st press of DSOM, and even with a few light spots of interference, it is a stunning listen.
This is a great sounding record, that starts with surprisingly little static in that famous extremely long run in heart beat intro to 'Speak to Me'. Just great clear sound, the track plays superbly with not a single light click, tic or pop. 'Breathe', another delicate track also sounds fantastic clear and he whole of the fist side really plays with superbly clear audio throughout. 'On the Run', so often heavily distorted and affected by clicks and hiss plays through with amazing clarity and perfect sound. Some very occasional static, but it is extremely light and really grades towards NEAR MINT al the way through. Even the stunning 'Great Gig in The Sky, such a difficult track to find with clear sound, pays superbly.
Money' kicks in side two with amazing clearly, largely flawless audio. "Us and them' starts amazingly clear but about half way through there is a very light crackle, like some very very light distortion. I have listened to this track three times in a row to try and figure this out, and can only put it down to some latent groove wear. This slight crackle is there but is very infrequent, and very light. At the very start of 'Any Colour you Like' sounds superb, but then also has a faint buzz near the start, but only lasting for the occasional bar of music. Any of this background crackle I have to insist is in the background, and in no way dominates or interferes with the music. You have to get up close to the speakers to hear it. Then its gone and the sound is great. There is only again a 2 second crackle at the end of the track. 'Brain Damage' sounds superb, but again with some of the very faint and very occasional crackle and the album climaxed with a great pressing of Eclipse, with plays superbly albeit for a slight buzz in the final bars, lasting about 1 second.
The record plays with staggering power, Great audio with minimal interference to distract from the overly enjoyment of this great record and hardly any surface or static noise between the tracks. Even at the end of “Time” and the run in to the “Great Gig In the Sky”, it is clean, crisp and rich.
The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals, which come through with tremendous power. As is the same with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. On the whole this lp plays with superb, clear bright audio. I have given a detailed account and l believe I have been externally unforgiving in pointing out the slightest audio interference. Although there are slight peeks and troughs, I would give an overall audio grading at EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS!
THE RECORD – Visual Grading - EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT
A stunning piece of glossy vinyl, this rare 1st press is really thick and chunky, with amazing deep clear grooves. A couple of faint whispy paper handling marks and a few very light hairline scuffs, but they are really light and need to be seen under an intense spotlight. A really wonderful example that has not been over played! A really great example.
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:
Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
THE COVER – EXCELLENT PLUS
The Matt finish covers of DSOM have to be one of the most prone to wear, of all the classic vinyls from the sixties and early seventies. Being matt finish and not having the advantage of being laminated, these covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and scuffed along the edges. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and scuffed. Not this one!
This 1st press comes with its original 1st Press Blue Cover. The 'blue-ish' tint covers that came with the first pressings, quickly changed to the standard charcoal black covers. And dont be fooled, these are complex different to all other covers from the UK pressings of DSOM. These covers themselves are rare and very valuable, and so hard to find with out heavily worn edges, corners and surfaces.
This 1st Press BLUE Cover has no scuffing to the corners, or rubbing along the edges, and that is virtually un heard of for DSOM. The opening edges are very square and totally un frayed, with NO detectable ring wear on either the rear or front cover, again unheard of. The back cover is nice and clean, again with only a very light impression of the vinyl, but NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers. The inside Gatefold is clean and virtually unmarked. The Spine shows minimal wear only, and is a nice square example. All round, this is a really amazing example that is virtually UNMARKED!!!
And, this is an ORIGINAL 1st Press BLUE COVER, and a fairly light coloured one at that. This is exactly the same 1st press cover that was first released for the Solid Blue press of DSOM, making this an ULTRA RARE and highly collectable cover. EASIL and strictly grades at EXCELLENT PLUS, I am sure most be would grade it at NEAR MINT.
The album was originally released in a gatefold LP sleeve designed by Hipgnosis and George Hardie, and bore Hardie's iconic dispersive prism on the cover.
The Cover design was aimed to represent three elements; the band's stage lighting, the album lyrics, and Richard Wright's request for a "simple and bold" design. A spectrum of light moves through to the gatefold sleeve — an idea that Waters came up with. Added shortly afterwards, the gatefold design also includes a visual representation of the heartbeat sound used throughout the album, and the back of the album cover.
The light band emanating from the prism on the album cover has six colours, missing indigo compared to the traditional division of the spectrum into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The concept was continued with two posters and a sheet of pyramid-themed stickers. One poster bore pictures of the band in concert, overlaid with scattered letters to form PINK FLOYD, and the other an infrared photograph of the Great Pyramids of Giza, created by Powell and Thorgerson.
In 2003 VH1 declared that The Dark Side of the Moon had the 4th-greatest album cover of all time, and in 2009 listeners of the UK radio station Planet Rock voted the packaging the greatest album cover of all time.
THE LABELS - EXCELLENT
A lovely set of labels with light spindle traces. These are an great pair of labels that have not been over played! A lovely set, they do have some spindle lines, but no spindle wear, and certainly no writing, finer prints r other marks.
THE INNER
Original plain black poly lined inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition. No tears, stains, just some light creasing and NO seem splits at all!!!
And dont be fooled, these are completely different to all other inner sleeves from the UK pressings of DSOM. These inners are themselves rare and valuable, and so hard to find with out heavy wear, graffiti, tears and splitting.
POSTERS - NEAR MINT
This copy of Dark Side of the Moon comes with BOTH original posters, in great condition. In flat MATT finish, these are not the same as the posters found in other pressings of DSOM.
A superb set with No tears or stains. Nice crisp edges. NO tape marks or pin holes!
STICKERS - NEAR MINT
Two original PERMANENT, Fasson CRACKBACK stickers, in Near MINT condition. No tears. Nice crisp edges. No tape marks or pin holes. The stickers will come in a separate envelope to ensure that they do not get bent or damaged.
The Dark Side of the Moon is the sixth studio album by Pink Floyd. The album was developed as part of a forthcoming tour of live performances, and premièred several months before studio recording began. The new material was further refined during the tour, and was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London. Pink Floyd used some of the most advanced recording techniques of the time, including multitrack recording and tape loops. Analogue synthesisers were given prominence in several tracks, and a series of recorded interviews with staff and band personnel provided the source material for a range of philosophical quotations used throughout.
The Dark Side of the Moon was an immediate success, topping the Billboard 200 for one week. It subsequently remained in the charts for 741 weeks (fourteen years), longer than any other album in history. With an estimated 45 million units sold, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums worldwide. It has twice been re-mastered and re-released, and has been covered by several other acts.
The Dark Side of the Moon is one of Pink Floyd's most popular albums for fans and critics alike, and is ranked as one of the greatest vinyl albums of all time.
RARITY
Dark Side has been re produced in massive quantities, being one of the most iconic albums of the 20th century. On saying that, finding an original UK early press in great condition is extremely rare indeed. It is one of the hardest pieces of vinyl from the early 1970's to find with great audio.
The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a brilliant example. Finding a great cover like this, with a great piece of vinyl, rare black inner sleeve and all the original and correct inserts, fantastic!.
A DSOM copy in this type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any DSOM examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays superbly is very rare. An ORIGINAL 1st ever A2 B2 press, with ORIGINAL 1st Press Blue Cover and ORIGINAL posters and stickers, all in great condition, makes this very rare indeed!
GREAT COVERS WITH NO SEAM SPLITS, NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS.
GREAT VINYLS WITH NO LOUD CLICKS OR POPS, NO JUMPS OR REPEATS - GUARANTEED!

I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are bidding on. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

I only sell vinyl that plays with TOP AUDIO, so every piece is tested under the strictest audio definition.

IMAGES and INFORMATION
I only use my photographs taken with a high quality digital camera of the item for sale. The images are designed to be as clear as possible, giving an exact image of the item. I aim to give sufficient and accurate detail as possible, so that you know exactly what you are bidding on. Please let me know if you need any further information and I will be only to happy to oblige.
VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:
Top quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.
SERVICE YOU CAN TRUST, QUALITY ASSURED. I HAVE A 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK RATING.
