Absolutely superbe seperation on this vinyl. This is complete with the original 1st press Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold cover very hard to find in this awesome condition also! Normally these albums are found played to death and in a terrible state. Very very collectable and sought after like this!!I can not emphise enough the audio is cristal clear and vibrant through out! Without \ (no) distortion, clicks or pops at all! I can not emphisise enough at how difficult it is to find a good 1st press vinyl of this album!  I have extensively researched these pressings and below I have tried to describe in full all the very important aspects and variations that determin the earliest issues of this album for both the gatefold cover, sleeve, matrix, mother stampers and label variations!!! So often I have purchased copies of this album only to find that the cover has been swapped over for a later one due to the fact that these original are notorious for ware! This is totally original and complete! I have highlighted in green, all important and vital information about this album that determins that this is the earliest issue!!!.

Atom Heart Mother is a 1970 progressive rock album by Pink Floyd, engineered by Alan Parsons and Peter Bown. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, England!!

The original album cover shows a very ordinary cow standing in a very ordinary pasture, with no text nor any other clue as to what might be on the record. (Some later editions have the title and artist name added to the cover.)

This concept was the group's reaction to the psychedelic "space rock" imagery associated with Pink Floyd at the time of the album's release; the band wanted to explore all sorts of music without being limited to a particular image or style of performance. They thus requested that their new album have "something plain" on the cover, which ended up being the image of the cow. Storm Thorgerson, inspired by Andy Warhol's famous "cow-wallpaper", has said that he simply drove out into a rural area near Potters Bar and photographed the first cow he saw. The cow's owner identified her name as "Lulubelle III". More cows appear on the back cover (again, with no text or titles), and on the inside gatefold.!!

The title track was to have been called "The Amazing Pudding", though Ron Geesin's original score referred to it as "Epic". Its name was changed after Ron Geesin, who co-wrote the piece and arranged the orchestration on the recording, pointed to a copy of The Evening Standard (dated Thursday 16 July 1970), and suggested to Roger Waters that he would find a title in there. The headline was: "ATOM HEART MOTHER NAMED".

The piece is a progression from Pink Floyd's earlier instrumental pieces such as "A Saucerful of Secrets". The "Atom Heart Mother" suite takes up all of side one, and is split into six parts, featuring a full brass section and choir which take most of the lead melody lines, while Pink Floyd mainly provide the backing tracks; a reverse of the 1960s pop music practice of using orchestration as the background, and putting the rock band in front. However, there is one section where a bluesy electric guitar solo by David Gilmour takes the lead!!.

Side two opens with three five-minute songs: one by each of the band's three resident songwriters, and closes with a suite with sound effects primarily conceived by Nick Mason, but credited to the whole group (and based mostly on musical ideas by Gilmour). Therefore, this album's concept is similar to their previous Ummagumma album, in that it features the full band in the first half, and focuses on individual members in the second half. Roger Waters contributes a folk ballad called "If" which he would play frequently at live shows in support of his Radio KAOS album, more than a decade later. This is followed by Rick Wright's brass-heavy "Summer '68", a critique of the "rock 'n' roll" lifestyle that would soon become characteristic of Pink Floyd. Next is David Gilmour's "Fat Old Sun", for which a 15 minute extended arrangement spent two years as a key part of the band's live set, and is a staple of Gilmour's various solo tours!!.

The final track, "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast", is divided into three segments, each with its own descriptive title, joined by dialogue and sound effects of then-roadie Alan Stiles preparing, discussing, and eating breakfast!!.

The original LP ends with the sound of a dripping tap which continues into the inner groove, and thus plays on indefinitely!!!

The vinyl

On initial inspection it is hard to see a blemish at all,  this looks almost as new in my opinion and gleems still retaining its sheen from new, This looks like it has only ever been played a few times only in my opinion.  The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is the original thick heavier and chunky type of vinyl only found on earliest pressings!!

Even in strong light this looks awesome, Please note most of the vinyls storage life it has been in a seperate poly sleeve to minimise any sleeve removal marks\scuffs. Any marks that could possibly ever be seen under a strong light would only be sleeve removal.

Any who know this album would appreciate that there are many quiet slow parts and this audio is absolutely exceptional cristal clear and vibrant through out,, importantly with (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly no skips or jumps! More importantly (no) distortion or any signs that this has been overplayed! Cristal clear and very vibrant audio 1st press! Please note! only 1st press vinyls feature First stereo issue with "The Gramophone Co., Ltd." on the label, (no) small EMI logo on the label, and the drip at the end of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast continuing into the runoff groove of the record!!!. Please note!, To be highly critical only on side two at the intro to the track 'Alans psychadelic Breakfast' There is what looks like, a small, slight mark or imperfection in the vinyl I could hear slight background brushing noise and extreemely very distant light static ticks, I must emphisise that these are not loud clicks or pops and may not be noticable on some systems at a lower normal acceptable volume! In my opinion this did not detract to much from the overall outstanding audio quality.

I would grade the audio side 1 at least  Excellent plus to near mint and side two at least excellent to excellent plus!

Please note! This vinyl has been stored in a case laying dormant for almost 37 years  A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static crackle\ticks!,,A constant clean before each play is recomended! This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality!

The labels

These are the original yellow\green Harvest labels! Emit EMI (only 1st press, later pressings have a small EMI logo in a box on the labels)! Feature ''The Gramophone Co...'' around the label rim (only 1st UK press)

Important label text info only found on 1st UK pressings!!!

At the bottom of the label, it says "Made in GT Britain."
Text around the top edge of the label starts at 10 o'clock and says:

The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved.

Text around the bottom edge of the label starts at 8 o'clock and says:

''Unauthorized public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited''.

The labels are as new! Only very minimal spider marks are barely visable angled to the light! the spindle hole is perfectly round with absolutely no ware at all! It is obvious in my opinion that this vinyl has barely ever been played!

The record sleeve

Issued with a Harvest Records inner advertising serpier sleeve. Please note this was also sometimes issued with a plain white polylined inner sleeve with a hole for the label in the center. At the bottom in blue text it says "British Patent No. 800513 & 978939" on the left, and "Made in England" on the right. In the bottom center is a blue rectangle with "Plastic bags can be dangerous. To avoid danger of suffocation keep this bag away from babies and children."

This is the original EMI advertising serpier sleeve With (no) splits or tares!! There is light creasing and browning with age only!! This is now stored seperately from the cover and vinyl!!!.

The cover

This is the original 1st Press unlaminated Garrod & lofthouse gatefold in exceptional condition with absolutely bare minimal ware to mention and bare minimal storageware at all in the form of very minor rubbing only really noticed if scrutinised in my opinion.  Absolutely awesome  spine all text is clear and importantly the original!

Important information that is unique only to 1st issue covers! At the front of the cover a cow is featured unlaminate (thin) card cover only! Inside Cover: In the lower left corner, it says "7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd Patent no 943,895 SHVL 781."(only 1st issue covers) later press do not have this!! This cover must be graded at least Excellent/Excellent Plus
