Pink Floyd : Atom Heart Mother 1G /1G 1st Press
This is one of the best first pressings I have heard in a long time! It has not been played very much and that is reflected in the sonic quality on offer here. S1 is very impressive and grades as Near Mint but as for S2 - wow! The clarity is phenomenal and practically every groove plays 'as new'. I am not sure if I have ever heard better!
The gatefold is in excellent condition with only a little wear on the spine and the original Harvest inner is also in great shape.
Being a genuine first press it has the 1G/1G matrix and no EMI logo on the labels.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in superb condition and has clearly been very carefully handled over the last 50 years. It has a very strong glossy sheen and has no marks or scratches. There are some very faint sleeve removal hairlines and a couple of slightly more obvious hairlines on S1 but they are superficial and have no affect on the audio. There is not very much spindle wear and the run out grooves are also very clean. It is one of the finest first pressings I have seen or heard in a long time.
Play grading
The quiet intro on 'Atom Heart Mother' plays with incredible clarity and all you can hear is that familiar sound of the needle running over the groove! There is no interference prior to the first brass section and it continues in much the same way. The clarity and definition of the audio is outstanding and as always I have listened to every second so as to provide a 'correct' grading. There are of course so many quiet sections and yet they all play to the same 'high end' standard with no clicks or pops and barely any static. There are a few minor dust ticks but you would find this on new vinyl let alone one pressed 50 years ago! The section starting at 10 minutes is a prime example of that - so quiet and yet the clarity can hardly be faulted, there certainly is no intrusion. The depth and power on the brass sections is also very impressive and the clarity during the choral sections cannot be underestimated either. The quiet violin piece near the end exemplifies just how clean the vinyl is, the playback is stunning, and the same goes for the closing section as the music builds. The final crescendo is 'as new' with no distortion at all. This epic plays so well and throughout its entire 23+ minutes there is not one single click or pop! It is without doubt one of the finest versions I have heard in many a year and I truly believe a Near Mint grade is more than deserved and, as I often say, many sections play even better than that!

The acoustic intro on 'If' plays with great clarity and the first verse has only a couple of very minor ticks but no clicks or pops. It continues to play extremely well with no intrusion and again I'm amazed at the overall 'sound' on offer here. The warmth and depth of the audio is so good and from start to finish this is Near Mint for sure. The first half is superb but the second half in particular is stunning!
The piano intro on 'Summer '68' is as good as it was back in '70! It has no 'background' and the first verse is just as impressive. When you find a vinyl as clean as this you just know the chorus/up tempo sections will have 'as new' audio and they do not disappoint! The clarity and depth throughout is breathtaking! It progresses in the same precise way to the very end with no interference at all. This is as 'complete' a version that you could ever wish for and I cannot adequately put into words just how immaculate it is! A STUNNING Mint version, no need for a minus here!
I am pleased to say the bell 'toll' intro on 'Fat Old Sun' is just as 'clean', perhaps the finest I have ever heard, and the first vocal is of the same standard also with no 'background', not even a dust tick! Once again I am shaking my head in disbelief in the quality of the audio. I often find this is one track that performs with some interference but this is a sublime version from the first groove to the last. Has it ever been played?! Ok I did hear a couple of mega light ticks further in but this is a spectacular version for sure. Gilmour's long solo is 'as new' and another mention for the clarity here - there is just nothing that gets in the way of the audio, the playback is so clean and precise and 'as new' is again no exaggeration and the fade out and final bell toll is equally as good. Perhaps this should be graded as Mint but I will grade as Mint- just to be cautious!
From the outset 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' plays with incredible clarity and it continues in the same manner. There is no underlying static and it is patently obvious this side has hardly been played judging by the sonic quality on offer here. Perhaps not everybody's favourite 'track' but I have nonetheless played every second and there is barely any intrusion. A couple of static ticks that is all - the clarity and depth of the audio is again out of this world! This is all the more impressive when you consider how many quiet passages there are. I honestly cannot remember when I heard a version as 'clean' as this and to the final note it plays to an exemplary standard with no interference. A Mint- version to close the album.
In summary this first pressing is of a quality that you so rarely find today. S1 is stunning but S2 is stunning and then some! The clarity and warmth of the audio is exceptional and as stated there is barely any static and not one single click or pop, it could hardly play with any better. This has a depth of sound that is so much stronger than the recent reissues and I cannot emphasise enough just how superb the playback is. I am certain any avid collector would be as equally impressed! A stunning album that is often underrated in my opinion.
The Gatefold
The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear. The edges remain very strong with only a little rubbing and whilst the wide spine does have a little more wear it is certainly not in poor condition like so many you see. You can make out most of the lettering, it has just a little rubbing, but there is more wear towards the bottom corner. The right hand corners are in excellent shape overall with just minor wear bottom right. The opening edge is pristine, it looks untouched, and the front cover is in lovely condition with just very minimal faint marking next to the spine. The back cover is also very clean with only three small indent marks near the top of the spine and a minor crease bottom right. The colours on both sides have lost none of their original 'look'. The inside is in superb order with no marking and as per all the first pressings it has ''7010 TPS Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse...'' on the bottom left.
The Inner Sleeve
The original die-cut Harvest inner is in great condition with no side splits or tears and only a very minimal amount of age related marking and a little creasing.
The Labels
The yellow/green Harvest labels still have a very strong colour with no marking or writing and only a little spindle wear. 'The Pink Floyd' is on both sides. Very clean examples.
