Description
This A2/B2 first pressing of Animals is without doubt one of the best I have heard. Looking under the brightest of lights I can only see 3/4 of the faintest hairlines probably caused by the removal of the vinyl from the heavy duty cardboard inner. The quality of the vinyl testifies to the fact that it has been hardly played. Bearing that in mind it is unsurprising that it retains that lovely glossy sheen of new vinyl.
The audio quality is quite simply astounding. I have play tested the LP in its entirety and the audio is so clear and rich it plays almost as new. There is almost zero lead in static and I only heard the slightest hint of crackle during the entire playback of Side One. There is a little distortion towards the end of 'Dogs' but that is the worst I can say. The audio plays with such clarity it is amazing to think this vinyl is nearly 40 years old.
Side Two begins with barely any lead in static and plays as near to perfect as you will find I believe. Again it plays with hardly any background noise and what you can hear is so minimal and definitely unobtrusive. I did hear one faint click during 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' and very light crackle during 'Pigs On The Wing 2'. Of course it goes without saying that there are no skips or jumps.
The original Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold cover is in excellent condition and only has minor shelf wear. There is light rubbing on the edges and on the top and bottom of the spine and as can be seen in the photos there is slight spotting in the top right hand corner. It has retained its shape extremely well and still has a good strong wide spine. Thee inside has a little spotting around the edges but other than that it is very clean. To confirm this is definitely a first press cover as it has no bar code and and also has the front edge of the gatefold sealed with a foldunder.
The cardboard lyric inner (with rounded corners as per first pressings) is in superb condition with only the slightest of wear at the bottom. It has the 9-inch notch on the edge that opens and in the lower right corner is the catalog number "SHVL 815(I)"
Overall this is a stunning first press that would grace any collection.
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
Harvest label SHVL 815 // Mat rix numbers A2/B2 // Mother Stampers GGD 3 & GT 3
I would grade Side One as Near Mint
Side Two is Near Mint-
