Animals A2/B3 (2nd Press)

This very early pressing plays with stunning quality overall.  This album only has mother numbers and no stamper letters on the run out grooves.

S1 is in immaculate condition and looks barely played judging by the stunning glossy sheen.  There is some spindle wear, although not a great deal, but there are no obvious hairlines at all and has always been very carefully handled.  S2 is equally as good except for two very small 'fade' marks on 'Sheep'.  Again there is a little spindle wear but as detailed below the audio overall is of a 'high end' standard.  The run out grooves are super clean with no marking.

Play grading  

'Pigs On The Wing P1' has a barely audible amount of static on the intro and then has audio of Mint quality.  The clarity is stunning.  A couple of ticks in the dead wax and 'Dogs' is more than equal to this standard and plays with immaculate audio.  Even the many quiet sections play with an incredible sound and there is no 'background' whatsoever.  I have sold many of these early pressings but not many match up to this 'as new' sound.  The more I listen to it the more I am amazed by the astounding clarity and warmth of the music.  No static or crackle and certainly no clicks or pops this is an audiophile's dream!  The louder end section often plays with some distortion on the top end as any Floyd aficionado knows but here it is minimal and does not intrude on the quality of the listen.  I will err on the side of caution and grade this side as Mint- the quality is that good.  It would be near impossible to find audio playing any clearer than this.

S2 begins with almost no lead in static and all you hear on the quiet 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' intro are a small number of totally non-intrusive dust ticks and then it is Near Mint sound quality all the way through.  There are perhaps a few more mega light dust ticks here but I'm listening out for any imperfection however minor and I am sure many would grade this side track as Mint also, the clarity is again of the highest order.  There is a little more static on the quiet 'Sheep' intro and on one of the later quieter sections where it is a little more obvious but the remainder plays superbly well with very little 'background', just some static on the fade out.  The louder end section is very impressive in that there is no distortion/interference whatsoever.  'Pigs on The Wing P2' ends the LP with a little intermittent static on the intro and then plays with stunning audio without any clicks, pops etc and is a fabulous end to an often underrated album.

The Gatefold

The G & L gatefold has some rubbing around the edges and a little fading near the top of the front cover but is certainly better than so many you see.  The wide spine is in excellent order and is still 100% legible.  The corners have a small amount of rubbing also and the opening edge is very clean with a minimal amount of handling wear.  The inside of the gatefold is very clean with only a little fading and a few small creases around the edges and some wear at the bottom of the spine.  The back cover is in excellent shape with just a little fading near the spine area.

Lyric sleeve

This has the rounded corners as per the first/early pressings and is beautifully clean apart from one split on the bottom edge.  Otherwise there is no marking or creasing which is very rare.

The labels

They are in perfect condition with no marking/writing, just some spindle wear but not very much.
