Description
Animals A2/B2 (very First Pressing)
This is an immaculate first pressing and it plays better than any pressing I have ever heard. I have listened to every second of this LP and there is not one click or pop, the audio quality is quite simply of astounding quality. The iconic gatefold is also in superb condition and the lyric inner has no splits which is something of a rarity!
This is also one of the early first pressings in that it only has two low stampers on each side, MA and RM.
SHVL 815 // A - 2U / B - 2U // MA 2 & RM 1

Visual grading
The vinyl is in stunning pristine condition and has a beautiful glossy sheen even after all these years. Under a strong bright light I can only detect a handful of the faintest of hairlines no doubt caused by sleeve removal. Even with a Mint vinyl this is common where the inner is made of thick cardboard. There are no scratches at all and whilst there is a little spindle wear on Side One there is zero on Side Two. For a 40 year old vinyl it is in absolutely immaculate condition. A true archive copy.
Play grading
There is no lead in static prior to 'Pigs on the Wing1' and this very quiet track then plays with stunning Mint audio, there is no other way to describe it. There is no static or crackle, no interference whatsoever and is an immaculate start to this often underrated LP. 'Dogs' plays to the same immaculate standard and I am not exaggerating in saying this side plays as a new high quality vinyl would. I have in all my years never heard an A2/B2 first pressing play as well as this. I have upgraded my stereo system recently so it would be easier to hear even minor audio faults but in all honesty my Pro-Ject Essential III hasn't picked up anything untoward here. 'Dogs' quite simply plays as Mint. I would generally grade a side as Mint- if it played as well as this on account of it not being sealed but I am confident in grading this side as Mint such is the high end stunning quality here. The clarity and depth is incredible and to find this on an A2/B2 pressing is so rare and even the louder end section plays superbly well which in itself is a rarity as so often the first/early early pressings play with some distortion. I did not even hear a solitary dust tick! And of course even new vinyl cannot escape dust ticks so for this side to be free of them is just unheard of!
Again there is no lead in static on Side Two. After about 30 seconds of 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' and just before the guitar 'kicks in' I heard two of the faintest dust ticks but that is as bad as it gets! The remainder of the track proceeds to play with Mint audio and again this is the best version I have ever heard, on any pressing and this (if you needed reminding!) is an A2/B2 press. The very quiet intro to 'Sheep' plays sublimely with no interference and the quality continues with breathtaking audio. I am running out of superlatives for this incredible vinyl. Audio does not get better than this! I perhaps heard only 3/4 of the most barely audible dust ticks you will ever hear. There is perhaps just a minor amount of distortion on the end section but it is not intrusive in any way. 'Pigs On The Wing2' ends the LP with stunning audio once more, just a handful of mega light dust ticks. No crackle, clicks or pops - absolutely astounding sound quality.
In summary, and I repeat, I have never heard a better 'Animals' and this knocks spots off later pressings and the recent reissues. This is vinyl as it should be heard. Not to hear even one click, well you just never find that on a 40 year old vinyl. This is without doubt a final upgrade, museum copy if ever there was one. A genuine Mint audio A2/B2 pressing.
Gatefold cover
The G & L gatefold cover is in wonderful condition with hardly any shelf wear and is one of the cleanest I have seen in a long time. The edges have an absolute minimal amount of rubbing and the wide spine remains 100% legible with only a minimal amount of wear caused by the gatefold being opened. The corners also remain in great shape with barely any rubbing. The front cover is superbly clean as is the inside of the gatefold, just a very minor amount of white 'spottting' on the latter. The back cover is also very clean and only has a couple of scratch type marks that are only visible when you hold it at a certain angle under a bright light. The opening edge is in fantastic shape and appears untouched. A stunning example of this iconic cover and rarely found in this condition.
It has no bar code as per the early pressings and also has the front edge of the gatefold sealed with a foldunder. In the lower right corner, it says "Made and printed in Great Britain 7701 TM Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd."
Lyric sleeve
This one has no splits, how rare is that! It only has a minimal amount of rubbing around the edges and a few light creases near the bottom edge but is otherwise in superb condition. It has the rounded corners as per the early pressings and has the 9-inch thumb notch on the edge with the catalogue number 'SHVL 815(I) in the lower right corner'.
Labels
They are in superb order with only some spindle wear on S1, none on S2. No marking, writing at all.
