Pink Floyd : A Saucerful Of Secrets 1 / 1 Mono Press Blue / Black Columbia 1968
This very early mono pressing plays to a very high standard with only minimal intrusion. Perhaps even intrusion is too strong a word! There are no clicks or pops and the only background is some light static here and there, a minimal amount of static distortion (very minimal!) and a handful of minor static ticks. There is nothing that stands out. Overall the clarity and depth of the audio is very impressive. One look at the vinyl confirms how well it has been looked after, it is easily one of the cleanest I have seen. There is some spindle wear so it has been played a fair amount but yes it has still been very well preserved. In fact two of the strongest tracks on the album are the two final ones on each side. 'Corporal Clegg' rarely plays as clearly as this and 'Jugband Blues' is superb. A fine album.
The laminated Patents pending G & L cover is in excellent condition with only minimal shelf wear and the EMI inner sleeve is in excellent order also. Probably not the original though.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint hairlines - there is one on S1 across the final two tracks but it has no impact on the audio and still can only be seen when you hold the vinyl at a certain angle. There is no groove or surface wear and this is clearly a record that has been ve4ry carefully looked after. The iconic blue / black Columbia labels are very clean with no marking and whilst there is some spindle wear this is mainly centred around the centre 'ring'.
Play Grading
'Let There Be More Light' has barely any static at the very start and as Mason comes in the audio is strong and clear. The intro continues in much the same way with only minimal static distortion for a couple of brief seconds, you could easily miss it. Waters' opening vocal section is superb with no intrusion and the following chorus is just as impressive. Stunning audio in fact. The entire vocal section plays with great clarity and depth and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static. The end instrumental is the same - sonically it is so strong with no static / distortion and overall. The more I play it the more impressed I am and the fade out has barely any background. This classic has to grade as Near Mint- it is a superb start to the album.
The intro on 'Remember A Day' is so clean with next to no static and Wright's opening vocal is faultless. As the volume decreases there is barely any background and the next vocal has no intrusion either. The mid instrumental is perfect and that deep, rich mono sound is very much in evidence. The next vocal has only a couple of barely audible statics and the closing instrumental is clean and precise with zero interference. I think Near Mint- is again a fair assessment of the audio.
'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' is of course always a real test for any early pressing and I am pleased to report it plays extremely well! The very quiet intro has only the lightest of intermittent static, nothing intrusive, and the opening vocal is close to perfect with only a hint of minor static distortion for a couple of seconds, hardly worth a mention really. It continues in much the same way with a real sense of depth and warmth. There is a modicum of static distortion towards the end of the ...Heart of the sun repeated section but again it is so minimal. The remainder plays for the majority plays very clearly and the quieter closing section has only a little static and some light ticks right at the every end. Ex+
'Corporal Clegg' is so often affected by distortion but this has to be one of the finest versions I have ever heard. The intro is so clean as is the opening vocal section. You expect some distortion, it's just how it was recorded / produced I believe, but the more this progresses the more I am blown away by the sonic quality on offer here. It's the vocal that generally suffers the most but that is not the case here, it is very clean. The instrumental sections are stunning and the closing section in particular could not play any better. A superb Near Mint- version.

The intro on 'A Saucerful Of Secrets' is of course very quiet and yet the clarity of sound is stunning. There are no clicks or pops and the only background is a small number of minor statics. About 1.5 minutes in there are a handful of light static ticks but they are really not that intrusive. As the volume picks up the clarity is still very impressive and there is only minimal static in the background here and there. As it gets even louder the playback is superb and as Mason comes the audio remains very clean. It continues in the same way and there is no distortion on the top end. This entire 'percussive' section plays with sublime quality and no intrusion at all, wow! Psychedelia at its very best! There is only a little light static as this section subsides and the first organ piece plays with great clarity, minimal background only. A little more static in the next section but this decreases prior to the first 'choral' section. This 'vocal' then plays very clearly with only a minor hint of distortion but I am just being 100% honest, it is still a great listen and in my opinion not intrusive. The closing section is very strong. Overall I would say this ranges between Ex and Near Mint- and, I hasten to add, there are no clicks or pops from start to finish.
'See-Saw' has only a couple of minor statics on the intro and Wright's opening vocal is close to perfect. From then on it plays exceptionally well with no interference. No ticks, clicks or pops and barely any static. Another Near Mint- track it's fair to say.
'Jugband Blues' plays with genuine quality for a final track. The clarity and warmth of the audio is so impressive and this is easily one of the finest versions of this classic that I have ever heard. Barrett's opening vocal section is flawless and the mid instrumental is superb! The following psych / brass section plays with phenomenal quality also and the 'silence' just has one minor static. The end vocal plays beautifully with no intrusion and provides a fitting end to Barrett's tenure in the band. This is easily Near Mint if not better!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The Patents pending G & L cover has been preserved very well and has only minimal wear. The edges are in superb condition and the thin pinched spine is very clean also, it just feels slightly rough in a couple of places. The corners have only minimal wear and the opening edge has only a little handling wear. The laminated front cover is in lovely condition and the only 'flaw' if you can call it that is a little rubbing by the right edge. The back cover of course is not laminated and yet it remains extremely clean with no marking. The flip-backs for once have no staining on the edges and are still firmly attached to the cover. There are some minor edges creases on the flip-backs and some light wear by the left edge but nothing stands out as such. A very strong example overall.
The EMI inner sleeve is in excellent shape with no sides splits and just has one small tear on the top edge on the back. It has hardly any marking and only some light creasing here and there.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
