Description
On offer here is a first press of A Nice Pair. The vinyls look barely played as under a bright light I can only see a couple of very faint hairlines. They retain that glossy sheen of new LPs and look stunning. I have play tested both and they sound as good as they look.
Side One does begin with a little static and about 4/5 faint clicks but after that the remainder of the side plays as near to Mint as is possible for an LP of this age. Perhaps the slightest of crackle but it is so quiet you can barely hear it and is only sporadic. There is not even any crackle between tracks and obviously with vinyls of this quality there are no pops, skips or jumps.
'Interstellar Overdrive' plays superbly well to start Side Two with no background noise at all. This quality continues with just very slight crackle during 'Chapter 24'. The audio on the remainder of the side is stunning also although 'Bike' plays with a little distortion which is common on last tracks anyway where the grooves are pressed closer together in order to 'fit' the songs on.
Side Three again sounds sublime with almost zero interference. 'Set The Controls...' just has one audible click, other than that the sound is wonderful.
'Saucerful' does plays with very faint crackle but in my opinion does not detract from the listening. It still plays with great quality with no clicks or jumps. 'See-saw' has one click near the start and 'Jugband Blues' finishes the LP with wonderful audio and almost no background noise.
The rare Dr W.R. Phang gatefold cover is in excellent condition with only slight wear on the edges. The 'Dr Phang' box is so often defaced but not this one. The corners have a little pinching but apart from that it is in excellent order, certainly one of the better ones I have seen. The inner sleeves are worn through at the bottom but the sides are still intact.
