This early UK pressing is in excellent condition overall with a very clean vinyl that has not been played a great deal.

The vinyl is in lovely condition overall with only a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and no scratches.  It has kept its glossy sheen over the years and has only been sparingly played as there is very little spindle wear.

Play grading  

'Signs Of Life' on S1 plays very well but as any Floyd fan knows there is always some static/crackle on this track as per all the early pressings.  This largely disappears after one minute and the remainder plays with excellent sound and only a little 'background'.  'Learning To Fly' is super impressive and has fantastic depth, the strong bass here is stunning and the track has no interference whatsoever.  Wow!  This definitely grades as Mint- in my opinion.  'The Dogs Of War' has a little static on the intro and then plays with stunning power, one of the strongest versions I have heard in a long time.  Apart from a minimal touch of light static at the start 'One Slip' plays with Mint- audio without a doubt.  'On The Turning Away' ends the side with great clarity from start to finish.  Yes a little non-intrusive static on the quieter sections but it really does play with breathtaking power and especially the end guitar solo.

Again as is so often the case with the first few grooves on these pressings 'Yet Another Movie' has some crackle on the quiet intro.  Once the music 'kicks in' it plays superbly well with great atmosphere and no other interference.  The remainder of the side plays with excellent audio and only a little static in the quieter sections and a 'A New Machine P1' is an example of that.  'Terminal Frost' is a real highlight and again grades as Mint- the power is astounding.  I turned it up loud and there was no distortion at all, a stunning version.  'Sorrow' ends the album with suitably impressive audio and only a little background static on the intro.  Overall a superb end.

The Gatefold

The cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear.  The edges are extremely clean with just a very small number of minor rub marks and the wide spine is in superb shape with no wear at all.  There is a little corner wear although nothing major and whilst there are some small creases on the front cover it remains very clean nonetheless.  The back cover is in great shape with a few minor creases near the top edge and the inside of the gatefold is in superb condition.  The opening edge has a minimal amount of handling wear.  A very clean example overall.

Lyric sleeve

This is in lovely condition with no splits or tears and has only the bare minimum of rubbing on the corners and a couple of very faint creases also.

The labels

The S1 label does have a couple of faint marks that are only visible when held at a certain angle, the S2 label is perfectly clean.  There is very little spindle wear on S1 and even less on S2.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
