Description

Grog ( GRL 03), Italy, 1976, gatefold cover.

M-/ EX to M-
Cover like new, only a faint, barely discernible wave at top corner, very light spotting inside and on back cover. Lp looks and plays super clean, only a few tiny specks of noise at beginning, great considering this wasn't the best pressing to start. Small hairline scuff at beginning of side 1 causes a light click for about the first 25 seconds, near mint after that. Extremely nice on the whole.

   This band has been described as having a Canterbury sound, or sounding like an Italian version of THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION. While much Italian progressive music of the '70s has elements in common with what Frank Zappa was doing circa 1968-1973, this really could be described as having an updated "Uncle Meat" -type sound, with its stop-on-a-dime changes, beautiful acoustic passages, odd-meter structures, layered winds, quirky vocals and sound effects ( even sounds of gargling are employed), and a Rock In Opposition -type "anything goes" ethos. Truly a magical and amazing album! Ultra-desirable and extinct to the modern world!
