The Piano Choir was Danny Mixon, Harold Mabern, Hugh Lawson, Nat Jones, Ron Burton, Sonelius Smith, Stanley Cowell and Webster Lewis and they dropped the second volume of their Handscapes album in 1975. It was a brilliantly beguiling mix of soul jazz sounds, avant grade ideas, occasionally naff bits of cheese and plenty of musical character that have made it a cult favourite. It's also a hard one to find for a good price so this welcome reissue relieves you of that chore. Amongst the highlights are the tender piano charms of 'The Need To Smile.'
