Description
This is a 12-inch 78 rpm soundtrack disc for the "Photo-Drama of Creation" produced by Pastor Charles Taze Russell (of "Zion's Watch Tower") and the International Bible Students Association in 1914. The "Photo-Drama of Creation" is widely credited with being among the very first "feature" films to feature a pre-recorded soundtrack. More than a decade before Vitaphone made the sound-on-disc system practical by recording on 16-inch discs at 33 rpm, the "Photo Drama of Creation" used standard 12-inch 78 rpm discs. It seems someone would sit with a phonograph (or pair of phonographs) at the front of a theater where the film/photo-drama was being shown and play the records in loose sync with the film.
This record contains:
Part 51: King Belshazzar's Feast Part 52: Kings Darius and Cyrus Part 55: Tidings of Great Joy Part 56: John the Forerunner
The record was recorded and pressed by Columbia in 1914. For a 100-year-old recording, the sound quality is exceptionally clear! This record is in excellent condition with no scratches and no visible wear.
Charles Taze Russell also produced the Angelophone series of records in 1916, just before his death. I have one of those available for sale right now as well. Please see my other listings.
