PHIL URSO – SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY – REGENT MG-6003 – VG+/VG+ - RVG - MONO
Haven’t seen this one for a while! It was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder on March 27, 1956 in New York, featuring Phil Urso on tenor, Bobby Banks on organ and Rodney “Red” Alcott on drums. SIDE A: MOONLIGHT SERANADE; DIANE; A WOMAN IN LOVE; 11TH HOUR MELODY and NOTHING EVER CHANGES MY LOVE FOR YOU. SIDE B: MEMORIES OF YOU; THEY CAN’T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME; BLUES TO REMEMBER HER BY; MY HEART TELLS ME and SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY. The initials “RVG” are stamped in the blank vinyl on both sides of the LP. Van Gelder did record for Savoy. This is a MONO recording.
I have graded both the LP and the record jacket as VG+ for the following reasons. The LP just misses an EX, as there are one too many marks on the vinyl, which do not interfere with play. They are surface marks, but they are there. There is no real sign of wear in the spindle hole, but there are marks around it. The record jacket has a short taped seam on the right top seam. The spine has a taped seam as well. The cover and the liner notes show no real sign of wear. Unfortunately, Regent LPs were poorly made by Savoy.
