Description

Formed in 1958 in Victoria B.C. Canada, The Pharaohs were Victoria's very first rock & roll band and managed to record a couple of very rare singles.

-The Pharaohs were part of the fledgling Victoria, British Columbia rock & roll music scene back in the late 1950's and early 1960's along with Bobby Faulds, Peter Kelch, The Strangers, The Marauders, and a handful of others. Very few records were ever cut by any of these Victoria groups/artists, but there are some, and all are mega-rare today and highly sought after by collectors of early Pacific Northwest rock & roll music.

-The Pharaohs were the backing band on Peter Kelch's wild rockabilly single Silly Girl released in 1965 on Terra 369 with the Pharaohs excellent solid-as-a-rock musicianship who somehow manage to keep up with Peter kelch's rip-your-ears-off vocals with terrific drumming from Terry Budd, solid bass from Ron Attfield, and great lead guitar from Ed Attfield and The Pharaohs can also be heard in the background providing backing vocals!

-The Pharaohs original line-up comprised of brothers Ed Attfield (lead guitar), and Ron Attfield (rhythm guitar, bass), Doug Brown (saxophone) andTerry Budd (drums). Sometimes Bobby Faulds would join as lead vocalist for their live performances.

-Other members between the years 1958-1972 included at various times Mike Newman (saxophone), Martin Koslowski (keyboards), Barry Casson (drums), Art Horsman (drums), Bernie Maggiora (keyboards), Rich England (saxophone), Mike kersey (keyboards), Doug Casey (drums, lead vocals), and in 1961 Doreen Fedosenko sang lead vocals during live performances and Skip Sponek played Keyboards during their last year as a group in 1972.

-The Pharaohs released just two instrumental singles that we are aware of which were The Friendly Martian (written by Peter kelch) b/w Unknown Planet (written by Ed & Ron Attfield of The Pharaohs, and Peter Kelch) released on Chattahoochee Records in the United States and on Iona Records in Canada and also Green Werewolf on Iona Records in Canada, we don't know if there is an American release for Green Werewolf.

-Titles: The Friendly Martian is a fast-tempo instrumental rocker with sizzlin' guitar throughout, keyboards, hot drumming and driving bass!

-Unknown Planet is a fast-tempo instrumental rocker with sax, hot guitar, percolating bass and drums.

A tiny mark on side 2, otherwise EX.

A mega-rare pressing on some obscure SoCal label. Couldn't find any mention of this pressing anywhere. Could be the only copy in existence!
