Not to revisit an overfamiliar studio canon, this set audits Tom Petty through the long arc of the stage. Over a rough 15-year period drawn largely from US radio broadcasts, we hear a parallel vector to the usual Petty hits package, with the late blond heartbreaker glimpsed entirely over the airwaves. Early performances from April 1977 at The Record Plant in Sausalito catch Petty just after his debut LP, 'American Girl' and 'I Need To Know' still lean and urgent. By December 1979, Houston's Music Hall dates for the King Biscuit Flower Hour lock in the harder edge of the Damn The Torpedoes era. The Jacksonville Coliseum shows from July 1987 reflect his commercial peak, while the Gainesville recordings from November 1993, post Into The Great Wide Open, close the loop.
