ABOUT THE COLLECTION
The items I am currently listing for sale, are all from a relatively large collection of almost 3.000 records. They have had one owner only, and the collection was mainly purchased in the period 1963-1968. A smaller number of records were purchased up until 1971 as the latest. The records have remained untouched since then! As is typical with collections of this size, most records have been played only once or twice, and some might never have been played. Many are still in shrinkwrap and quite many are still factory sealed.
Generally, the vinyl appear absolutely stone Mint. My guess is that the previous owner might have played them once and then filed them. Take a record out of its innersleeve and it’s just like looking at a brand new unplayed LP – beautiful shine and no trace of hairlines or spindlemarks. Let’s assume that they have indeed ever been played, and grade them a conservative Mint minus.
The previous owner not only bought, but also sold records. There are hundreds of unplayed records, many of which are obviously still sealed, packed in boxes. Some titles are available in up to ten copies of each. Unplayed sales titles include Beatles, Elvis, Archies, McGough & McGear, John Coltrane, Archie Shepp and many more. These should qualify for a stone Mint grade.
Normally, I only use the Mint grade for still sealed items, but this is a case where hundreds of records were obviously intended for sale and many, almost all, are present in multiple copies. These sales items have clearly never been played, and in my best opinion, they really do qualify for a clean Mint grade.
The quality of these 40+ year old records is absolutely unbelievable. You will not be disappointed with the quality of the vinyl. I have listened to several of the records from this collection. It is absolutely amazing how these vintage records just look and play AS NEW.
Generally, many of the covers appear to be in EX condition, even though the majority of the records were stored without an outer plastic sleeve protecting the covers. As an effect of this, some covers are somewhat dusty or have other, mostly mild, signs of age. Please see the specific description for each LP auctioned for a thorough description.
This is a chance to get a supreme vintage copy of music history. Unplayed 1960’s and 1970/1971 pressings just don’t turn up very often, and even the copies from the main collection that are “only” in Mint minus condition are absolutely stunning!
