Peter Bardens : The Answer A1/B1 1st Press

This is another first pressing that I am selling that plays with stunning precision throughout.  There is quite simply no interference, not even one tick let alone anything worse.  The vinyl has been so well preserved and that is reflected in the superb visual quality and of course the sonic quality.  I am confident in grading it as Mint on both sides.

The MacNeill cover is in lovely condition with barely any wear and original paper inner has also been very well looked after.  This is a record that has hardly been removed from its cover!

Visual grading

The vinyl is in beautiful condition with an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen and no marks or scratches.   Under a strong light I can only detect a small number of very faint hairlines and they are certainly not easy to find!  At first glance it does look brand new.  The Transatlantic labels are pristine with no marking/writing and only the bare minimum of spindle wear.

Play grading

The first you notice when playing this record is the clarity of the sound.  The long intro on 'The Answer' is 'as new' with a clarity that all points to a vinyl that has hardly been played if at all!  The first vocal is just as impressive as is the next instrumental section.  It just plays beautifully.  The remainder also plays with sublime precision and I cannot overstate just how pristine the audio is.  This is easily a Mint start to the album, there is just no 'background.

The quiet intro on 'Don't Goof With A Spook' plays to the same standard with not even a single dust tick.  As the vocal comes in there is no let up in quality and it continues in the same way with a sonic quality that is just exceptional.  Each note is so clean and precise and again I cannot praise it highly enough.  This is Mint in every way.

'I Can't Remember' carries on this fine form and plays with wonderful clarity and depth from the very note to the err last one!  Little else needs to be said - there is no intrusion on the audio not even on the quieter section about 10 minutes in.  Gee's guitar work is exemplary and the overall sound is just STUNNING.  There is no inner groove distortion as you approach the end and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint such is the quality.  'As new' sums it up perfectly and yes I have listened to the entire 10+ minutes.

The quiet intro on 'I Don't Want To Go Home' plays to perfection and the opening vocal is equally as good.  From then on it plays with great precision and of course...no interference.  The clarity of sound is just on another level and the sonic quality could not be enhanced in any way.  Each vocal and instrumental section plays with wonderful quality - no ticks, clicks or pops and again no static.  Mint

'Let's Get It On' plays to the 'high end' standard with no interference.  I wish I could demonstrate how good - even the new fangled video on eBay would not show just how clean and precise the audio is!  This is Mint and again there is no need for a minus.

The 'prog' intro on 'Homage To The God Of Light' is flawless and the first 'vocal' is more than up to the task also.  From then on it plays with incredible power and definition with no sign of any interference.  There is a lot 'going on' with this 'instrumental' and yet because the clarity is so impressive the audio does not suffer because of it.  In essence it could not play any better and all of its 13.5 minutes plays with great precision and there is no inner groove distortion.  A stunning version and Mint is again very much deserved.

In summary this relatively rare first pressing plays to a superb standard that cannot be faulted.  The clarity, depth and power of the recording is second to none and you would not be disappointed if you had just bough this 'new' from a record shop.  As my regulars know I do not use the term 'as new' lightly but it certainly applies here.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops - no intrusion at all.  A stunning album.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in superb condition with hardly any wear.  There is no edge wear and the thin pinched spine is near perfect with only only a couple of minor indentations and a couple of tiny marks.  All four corners are in fantastic order with no obvious wear and the opening edge is pristine.  The front cover is unmarked and just has a little laminate 'lift' next to the spine but no splitting.  The back cover is also in great condition with no real wear just a little white 'spotting' along the bottom edge and very minor laminate 'lift' next to the spine again.  A fine example overall.

The original die-cut paper inner has no side splits or tears, very little age related fading and only minimal creasing.
