Ladies and Gentlemen: we have a privilege of presenting here the single rarest record in Jazz Vocals' history.

Recorded in 1968 at "Copacabana" , the legendary New York night club at the corner of 60th Street and Madison Avenue (we happened to have worked in the same building for three years), this album captures the only known Miss Lee 60's concert performance captured on vinyl. Peggy Lee is backed on this set by an incredible group of supremely competent - and confident - Jazz musicians, headed by "Toots" Thielmans, legendary Dutch mouth harp player, who simply shines on some songs, but never overwhelms Peggy Lee's vocal.

For reasons unknown to this date, album was pulled from print mere hours - or days - before it hit commercial circulation. The reason for this decision remain unclear; the stories we have heard range from Peggy Lee being unhappy with the quality of her live performance (she certainly had no reason to be - this is one of the finest Lee performances on record; but, then, Miss Lee was known as an obsessive-compulsive perfectionist, and this version of the events does not surprise us), to the story that she was uncomfortable covering songs by contemporary artists (featured songs include tracks by Tim Hardin, John Sebastian and Nancy Sinatra), to the rumor that some of the musicians did not receive proper clearance from their labels (this story makes no sense - the musicians are not even credited on the back cover), although she introduces them during the performance.

Whatever the reason, the final result of this decision was that a handful of promotional copies were sent - only to a few radio stations - before the album disappeared without a trace, never to be seen or heard from again. We understand that less than 300 copies were pressed, and most of them have long since vanished from the face of the earth.

Track listing: Do I hear a waltz - By the time I get to Phoenix - Reason to Believe - Personal property - Didn't want to have to do it - Hand on the plow - Until it's time for you to go - Something Stupid - What is a woman - Alright, Okay, you win - Here's to you - Come back to me.

(One little curiosity, if this is of any relevance – and we do not claim that it is - between 1988 and 1990, this seller used to work in the same building where Copacabana club once was located)

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             Mono copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(d)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some tiny writing in plain PENCIL on its back side, which can be easily and effortlessly erased.

-         Cover has one corner slightly worn / frayed / bent.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 3 (back side)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the top seam (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No split seams
