Many years from now" must have seemed like an understatement to 16-year-old Paul McCartney, wondering if he'd still be needed or fed at the age of 64. As it turned out, all doubt as to the latter had ceased by his 22nd birthday (though few could have predicted he'd end up washing down those meals with the liquid pride of Seattle). As to the former? Now that McCartney, as of the date of this album's release, has reached that mythic age, his greatest work is 40 years behind him, his solo peak over 30 years gone. Does the world need a new Paul McCartney album? The answer is yes, at least as much as it needs anything else that passes for music these days. With Memory Almost Full, Macca is back. No, it's not Ram or Band on the Run. It might not even be Flowers in the Dirt--in 1989, he had a full band, the support of Linda, and Elvis Costello as a collaborator. Here, he's on his own. Literally: on the majority of the tracks, everything but the strings is multi-instrumentalist Paul. But the surprise is that it's one of his freest, loosest affairs in years, sonically reminiscent of the Tug of War/Pipes of Peace era with nods to Abbey Road in the album-closing medley, McCartney's gravelly tones on "Gratitude," and 2007's version of "Her Majesty," the palate-cleansing "Nod Your Head." It's a surprise because of the album's inescapable sense of retrospection ("Ever Present Past," "Vintage Clothes," "That Was Me") and even a bit of weariness. The next-to-last song is "The End of the End," after all, in which McCartney tells us about what he'd like to happen "on the day that I die." (He wants "songs that were sung/to be hung out like blankets/that lovers have played on/and laid on while listening to songs that were sung," and will likely get his wish.) But it never gets overwhelming, for McCartney mostly resists his tendency to get plodding and maudlin. In fact, Memory Almost Full must be the most sanguine album made during the dissolution of a marriage since...well, ever. "What went out is coming back," he sings in "Vintage Clothes," and from the sound of things, that may not be just wishful thinking. What's past is prologue; if we're lucky, what to come may be McCartney's late renaissance.

PAUL MCCARTNEY - FLOWER IN THE DIRT - EMI LICENSED TO MENOANR LABEL RUSSIA FACTORY SEALED  - JUST TRY TO FIND A SEALED COPY OF THIS MCCARTNEY MASTERPIECE  While all of the Beatles had successful solo careers following the breakup of the band, it was Paul McCartney's career that would prove to be the most successful. With the bar set high, McCartney often found himself trying to measure up from a critical standpoint to what the Beatles had done. In the 1970s, McCartney's band Wings - while not the apple of the critics eyes, continued to sell records. Things would change in the 1980s when McCartney would dissolve Wings. Although McCartney would start the decade out with two successful solo albums in "Tug of War" and "Pipes of Peace". In 1984, things would drastically change - "Give My Regards to Broad Street" would be the soundtrack for a film he would write. That film would prove to be a box office bust and the album would have moderate success. In 1986, things would get worse as his album "Press to Play" was for all practical purposes a flop. As the 1980s would close, McCartney would turn to an unlikely source to try to revive his legendary career - and he would succeed with the 1989 release "Flowers in the Dirt". This would prove that McCartney was back.

Many attribute McCartney's problems in the 80s because he would often have trouble focusing. While McCartney is a great musician, it was obvious that he would often require that "voice of reason" to push him when it came to songwriting or producing. John Lennon and George Martin would fill these roles, but even Martin couldn't stop the train wreck that occurred with "Give My Regards to Broad Street". Following the disaster of "Press to Play", McCartney would start a long songwriting partnership with one of the most unlikely musicians - Elvis Costello. No doubt, Costello is a different artist than McCartney, but he would also provide the stimulus needed to recharge McCartney's creative juices. The duo would begin to write songs for "Flowers of the Dirt" and Costello's album "Spike". Costello would use his real name Declan MacManus to credit the songwriting on four songs included "Flowers in the Dirt". Costello would also participate on three of the four tracks from a musician standpoint - including the duet "You Want Her Too".

At the same time, McCartney brings in a team to help out with the production duties. This team includes longtime Beatles producer George Martin, Elvis Costello, acclaimed producers Chris Hughes and Neil Dorfsman, and former Yes member and producer in his own right Trevor Horn. These producers would work on producing McCartney's efforts on a track by track basis. Combining this approach with his new alliance with Costello would result in some of the freshest material by McCartney since his Beatles days. It found McCartney exploring new avenues as well as revisiting old ones.

Here is a track by track breakdown:

"My Brave Face": This is a McCartney/Costello collaboration and is a very well written song. You can hear sounds of the old McCartney sound as well as the new Costello influence. This is a song that talks about someone putting on a "brave face" after losing a love. (Kind of takes a new spin when McCartney's wife Linda would pass away almost a decade after this song).

"Rough Ride": This song was co-produced with Trevor Horn. It features synthesizers and drum programming as well as trademark Linda McCartney background vocals. Not a bad song - but it's average when you compare it to the remaining tracks.

"You Want her Too": This is the McCartney - Costello duet. Once again, McCartney and Costello bring the best of both worlds. The song opens with an East Indian-influenced melody - going back to the days of the Beatles. McCartney and Costello then trade vocals - and Costello's unique sound really works in the vocal exchange. Great track.

"Distractions": This song has a classic Beatles feel. The Orchestral feel to the song really gives it a good dimension. McCartney's vocals are right on target.

"We Got Married": This song also has a classic Beatles feel, but also you can hear some of the classic McCartney solo sound. No doubt, McCartney's own relationship with his wife played into this song's story. This song features David Gilmour on guitar.

"Put it There": This is McCartney's tribute to Fathers and Sons. I assume this song is a tribute to his own father Jim as well as his own son James.

"Figure of Eight": This song really blew me away. This has a slight Blues influence to it at times. McCartney's vocals a right on the money as well. This is one track where I wouldn't change a thing.

"This Time": Another great sounding song. This one is a very catchy song, but well-written as well.

"Don't Be Careless Love": Another McCartney-Costello collaboration. Once again this is a terrific way of the bridging between McCartney and Costello. There are some terrific harmonies in the chorus.

"That Day is Done": This is the final McCartney-Costello collaboration on this album. Same message as for all of these collaborations as you hear the best of both of these musicians. This song sounds very different than anything McCartney has done before - good stuff.

"How Many People": McCartney's creativity is in high gear as he assembles a reggae influenced track. Paul pulls this off beautifully.

"Motor of Love": I heard almost a (very light) R&B influence at the beginning of this track. Although it's not one of the stronger tracks, I give McCartney credit for trying something new.

The Fireman (Paul McCartney) - Electric Arguments - 200 gram limited edition 2 LP set

  The Fireman was an unknown duo when they released their debut, Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest in 1993. But the press exposed the duo as none other than Paul McCartney and Youth. Now, the Fireman are back after a 10-year break and this time they have something to sing about. For the first time ever, the Fireman have found their voice. Electric Arguments, their third studio album, is their first to feature vocals. Electric Arguments is an eclectic and varied album consisting of 13 tracks recorded in 13 days over the period of nearly a year. Each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. The Fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. The project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band. Electric Arguments demonstrates that Paul McCartney is still interested in pure musical possibilities. It was made with complete artistic and creative freedom.

Kisses On The Bottom is a collection of standards Paul grew up listening to in his childhood as well as the two new McCartney compositions "My Valentine" and "Only Our Hearts." With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band--as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney's new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. The full track listing reveals that Paul has been both reverent and adventurous in his song choices.

The phrase `Kisses On The Bottom,' comes from the album's opener `I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter'. Originally made a big hit by Fats Waller in 1935, the song opens with the lines "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you. I'm gonna write words oh so sweet. They're gonna knock me off of my feet. A lot of kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got `em."

As authentic and daring a musical statement as he could make, this is the album Paul has been thinking about making for more than 20 years - and probably the last thing his fans are expecting. "In the end it was 'Look, if I don't do it now, I'll never do it'," he says. In short, Paul believes it is about time "the songs me and John based quite a few of our things on" received the recognition they deserve. Moreover, the record also features a couple of new original McCartney compositions in the spirit of those classics.

"When I kind of got into songwriting, I realized how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them," Paul explains. "I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys - I just thought the songs were magical. And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it's beautiful, the way they made those songs."

Determined to approach the record in a new and unique manner, Paul enlisted the help of LiPuma and Krall and her band-who delivered ultra-high quality musicianship and were completely in tune with Paul's restraint and feel for the music. In the studio, the recording of this album was also a new challenge for Paul who, for the first time ever, performed exclusively in the vocal booth without an instrument - no guitar, no bass, no piano - which led to a vocal performance like no other in his career.

He adds, "It was very spontaneous, kind of organic, which then reminded me of the way we'd work with The Beatles. We'd bring a song in, kick it around, when we found a way to do it we'd say 'Okay, let's do a take now' and by the time everyone kind of had an idea of what they were doing, we'd learnt the song. So that's what we did, we did the take live in the studio."

"It was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people. I hope they are in for a pleasant surprise."

The album was recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, New York and London throughout 2011.

Paul McCartney continues the reissue series of his catalog albums with the release of a deluxe and expanded version of his 1971 album Ram via Hear Music/Concord Recordings. The formats will include a limited mono vinyl album, a four-disc CD/DVD box set that will include a book, and a double album on vinyl.

McCartney began his reissue campaign in 2010 with the release of an expanded version of Band on the Run. He then followed up the following year with deluxe versions of both his McCartney solo debut (1970) and McCartney II (1980) last spring.

The only album credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney, Ram reached number one in the U.K. and stayed in the U.S. top 10 for five months. Recorded after leaving The Beatles and before the formation of Wings, Paul and Linda initially flew to New York to record the songs they'd written but arrived without a band. As Paul recalls, "We were thinking of forming a group at that time, Wings. We went to New York, found a really grotty little basement somewhere and auditioned a bunch of people. We got someone to throw a lot of drummers at us, out of which we picked Denny Seiwell who's one of the best, and his personality fitted. Then we went in, worked with him, Hugh McCracken, Dave Spinozza, a couple of New York session men, and did Ram." To avoid arousing too much interest, the auditions were held under the guise of a session for a commercial jingle. The album features mainly Paul on lead vocals, with Linda joining him on harmonies. "I gave her a hard time, I must say [about the harmonies], but we were pleased with the results. Elton John later said somewhere that he thought it was the best harmonies he'd heard in a long while. It was very much the two of us against the world at that point." Despite an initially lukewarm Rolling Stone review, it was later hailed by them as one of McCartney's best solo albums.

Reviewer: Celt Who'd thought this one would have ever been available again? It's a nice heavy and perfectly quiet pressing. The mono mix differs from the stereo mix and features some great songs and nice dynamics. Get it while you can!

McCartney II, originally issued in May of 1980, was McCartney's return to solo work after nine years touring and having released several massively successful albums with Wings. BAND ON THE RUN is generally considered Paul McCartney's strongest solo effort. The album was also his most commercially successful--selling well and spawning two hit singles, the multi-part pop suite of the title track, and the roaring rocker "Jet." On these cuts, and elsewhere, McCartney's penchant for sophisticated, nuanced arrangements and irrepressibly catchy melodic hooks is up to the caliber he displayed in the Beatles, far surpassing the first two Wings releases WILDLIFE and RED ROSE SPEEDWAY.
The focus found in BAND ON THE RUN may have to do with the circumstances of its creation: Two former members quit the band prior to recording, leaving McCartney, wife Linda, and guitarist Denny Laine to complete the album alone (with Paul writing, producing, and playing most of the instruments himself). The album has the majestic, orchestral sweep of McCartney's ABBEY ROAD-era ambition, with a wide range of style-dabbling, from the swaying, acoustic jazz-pop of "Bluebird" to the appealing, straightforward rock of "Helen Wheels" to the wiry blues of "Let Me Roll It" to the swaying, one-off pub singalong "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me)"). Though it lacks the emotional resonance of contemporaneous releases by John Lennon and George Harrison, McCartney's infallible instinct for pop craft overflows on this excellent release.

Venus and Mars is the fourth album by Wings. Released as the follow-up to the enormously successful Band on the Run, Venus and Mars continued Wings' string of success and would prove a springboard for a year-long worldwide tour. It was Paul McCartney's first post-Beatles release on the Capitol Records label.

The 1973 album Band On the Run featured a trio of Paul McCartney and wife Linda along with guitarist Denny Laine. In 1974, McCartney added guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton to the line-up. However, due to a personality conflict between McCulloch and Britton, Joe English was hired to replace Britton to finish the album. The album was preceded by the single "Listen To What the Man Said," which helped to boost anticipation and sales of the album.

Originally released in 1976 as a triple album with a poster of the band, the live album Wings Over America has been newly re-mastered and personally supervised by Sir Paul himself.

Selected from ninety hours of recordings, Wings Over America is a faithful account of the 1975-76 world tour, taped at several of the US shows (but mixed as if it were a single performance and including studio overdubs recorded prior to its release).

Wings over America is the monumental live album by Paul McCartney and Wings, originally released in December of 1976. Recorded throughout the band's “Wings over America” U.S. tour dates earlier that Spring, the album reached #1 in the US in early 1977. Containing almost two full hours of music, Wings over America offers a stunning rendition of “Maybe I'm Amazed,” plus Wings classics such as “Live and Let Die,” “My Love,” & “Let 'Em In.” McCartney also included some Beatles classics into the set list, including “Yesterday,” “The Long and Winding Road” and more for the first time since the Beatles had broken up six years earlier.

"Basically, there are two things that rock bands do: they make an album and they go on tour. Since Paul McCartney fervently wanted to believe Wings was a real rock band, he had the group record an album or two and then took them on the road. In March of 1976 he released Wings at the Speed of Sound and launched a tour of America, following which he released Wings Over America, a triple-album set that re-created an entire concert from various venues. It was a massive set list, running over two hours and featuring 30 songs, and it was well received at the time, partially because he revived some Beatles tunes, partially because it wasn't the disaster some naysayers expected, and mostly because -- like the tour itself -- it was the first chance that millions of Beatles fans had to hear McCartney in concert properly (the Beatles had toured, to be sure, and had played before millions of people between 1963 and 1966, but as a result of the relatively primitive equipment they used and the frenzied, omnipresent screaming of the mid-'60s teen audiences at their shows, few of those present had actually "heard" the group)...the album offers bracing renditions of "Maybe I'm Amazed" -- arguably the best of McCartney's post-Beatles songs and possibly his single greatest composition -- and "Band on the Run," as well as nicely distilling the harder side of his repertory, with a few breaks for softer songs such as "My Love" and "Silly Love Songs"; another highlight is the rippling bass sound, showing off that instrument in a manner closer in spirit to, say, a John Entwistle solo LP than to McCartney's more pop-focused studio work. The triple LP, issued two weeks before Christmas of 1976, was priced so low that it was offered by most stores as a "loss leader" to pull customers in; what's more, the Beatles mystique was still very much attached to record and artist alike -- at the time, John Lennon had seemingly burnt out a major chunk of his talent, George Harrison was losing his popular edge and had done a disastrous 1974 American tour, and no one was expecting great things from Ringo Starr -- and it seemed like McCartney represented the part of the group's legacy that came closest to living up to fans' expectations. Thus the album ended up selling in numbers, rivaling the likes of Frampton Comes Alive and other mega-hits of the period, and rode the charts for months..." - allmusic.
