This is one of the few records that sets a standard for reproduction of sound and I think it is no incident that it is a jazz recording. Being a small label Premonition Records needs to make the best possible sound to be heard, it seems. It's obvious, God blesses small labels. Bearing this in mind it is no surprise to me that a singer with the repute of Patricia Barber chooses for them. The atmosphere of this recording breathes a nightclub at the end of the night, the musicians are almost the only ones who are enjoying themselves, there's only one drunken visitor, hanging in a back seat of the café. Patricia Barber enjoys herself too, she juggles with the tones her flexible voice can produce, the darker ones are not often really correct, but who bothers? She engages in difficult tonalities, no words in the way here, only sound. Melancholy is what you feel, she's a woman alone with her piano, and in the background lingers a Spanish guitarist.

What strikes me most is the simplicity of it all, the choice of instrument is as humble, but with a startling perfection the combo plays its tunes, often improvising on the spot. Sometimes the solo's (so traditional in jazz) irritate me a bit, drum solo's are often somewhat boring and old-fashioned, but then: "Inch Worm" and "Ode To Billy Joe", followed by "A Taste Of Honey". Pure art in sound!

We pack all LP's to insure that they do not arrive with any seam splits however we cannot guarantee mishandling by the postal service. If you want to be sure this does not happen please let us know and we will remove the LP from the cover prior to posting. We, unfortunatley, cannot accept any returns on "opened" vinyl.

As usual we have obtained a super deal on this collectable. Please hurry though quantities are limited! This item is brand new and factory sealed.
