Description

Titled "Never thought I'd see the day" from 1974.This is an exciting find, virtually unknown UK folk from this Sheffield band comprising:

Donovan Gibbons - Guitar & Vocals, Philippa Johns - Vocals, Rashiba Qureshi - Violin, Peter Ryder - Guitar & Vocals and Philip Shepherd - Guitar & Vocals. There are 13 lovely tracks in all, one traditional and the rest self-penned, and they are very very good! "Rosemary's Song" and "Bird in a Cage" particularly would stand up very well amongst some of the legendary psych-folk releases of the period.Four of the songs have a Christian theme and are also excellent, the playing throughout is notable for some beautiful finger-picking acoustic guitars. Two of the tracks feature bass from Phil Shankland and the traditional track "Day sinks" features male and female backing vocals.

From what I can gather, this album did go on general release, albeit in tiny numbers, probably a private pressing, and a very expensive second album is rumoured to exist. This white label test pressing is visually in Mint minus condition, and plays EX. There are four inserts with this super item, two pages of lyrics to eight of the songs, an artwork insert and one with tracklisting, personnel and notes.

So, a really fascinating and rare item and something I haven't come across before in over 30 years of collecting.
