Pages' self-titled album is an underappreciated gem from the late '70s, blending pop, jazz, and soft rock in a way that is both accessible and richly layered. The production, overseen by Jay Graydon, is impeccable, with contributions from top-tier session musicians like Toto's Jeff Porcaro and Al Jarreau.
'O.C.O.E (Original Cat of the Eighties)' stands out with its smooth yet sharp narrative. The harmonies are lush, and the jazz-infused instrumentation adds depth to the track. 'Sesatia' offers a mysterious storyline wrapped in a catchy melody, while 'Automatic' injects a dose of rock energy, ensuring the album isn't too predictable. 'You Need a Hero' might raise some eyebrows with its dated perspective, but the track's hook and vocal performance are undeniably engaging. Tracks like 'Only a Dreamer' and 'Fearless' are lush with romantic sentiment, perfect for setting a cozy, intimate mood. Pages delivers a sophisticated listening experience, making this reissue a treat for fans of late 70s smooth sounds.
