Description
Original USA pressing of an LP titled "Out Of Sight!". Exploitation LP, made to look like a compilation of artists that would make the buyer believe he was purchasing all the groovy hip hit sounds of the day so there's some famous names on the front (Tommy Roe, Paul Revere & Raiders) and some names that sound LIKE famous names (The Beachnuts). In reality all the tracks - at the time it was issued - were either old forgotten tracks dredged up from artists' early careers, or tracks recorded by the group of Pickwick writers and players centered around Syracuse University. Luckily for us, that circle included LOU REED and JOHN CALE as well as Terry Phillips. So, this is a must fro people interested in the roots of the VELVET UNDERGROUND.
At least three tracks were written by Reed & associates (those by fake groups The J-Men, The Beachnuts and The Hi Lifes) and at least one not only is played by Reed, it's unmistakenly his lyrics, VERY recognizable lead vocal, and guitar; and would have fit on the first VU album nicely with only minor changes. "Cycle Annie" is a song about a tough biker chick, sort of in the hotrod genre, but twisted (find it on YouTube). It has a folk/rock-to-garage vibe that is a direct link to rockers like Waiting For My Man.
Original USA pressing of Design DLP-269. Stereo version, and it's rare in stereo. Rarer still in this condition (this was marketed to kids and as such it's almost always trashed). This one has a Near Mint cover (still in the shrink). Labels are NM. Record is NM one side, VG++ other (full original gloss, just a couple minor surface hairlines). I'm sure this plays as NM as any copy in existence!
