The Original Mono Recordings regroupent ces albums minutieusement reproduits à partir des premiers mixes en mono, tel que l'artiste souhaitait qu'ils soient entendus : une seule piste d'un son puissant, à la fois brut et essentiel. Alors que les enregistrements stéréo étaient disponibles dès les années 50, le mono était encore le mode d'enregistrement et de mix prédominant - et bien souvent préféré des artistes prinicipaux des années 60. Ainsi, des artistes comme les Beatles, les Rolling Stones, et Bob Dylan dévouaient leur attention aux mixes mono, laissant le mix stéréo aux ingénieurs studio.

The original Mono Recordings sont accompagnés d'un livret comprenant des photographies d'époque de Bob Dylan, ainsi qu'un essai expansif de l'auteur et critique réputé Greil Marcus - inconditionnel de Dylan de longue date. Chaque disque du coffret est présenté dans sa pochette individuelle reproduisant fidèlement l'artwork original de l'album, jusqu'aux étiquettes des disques et aux stickers qui sont identiques à ceux qu'on trouvaient sur les éditions des années 60.
