Description
Extremely rare original Bell-Tainter wax-on-cardboard record. Length: 14 cm , diam. 3 cm. This record, dating from the 1888-ies only can be played on an early B-T Graphophone.Since I do not have such machine I cannot tell what is recorded on this record; it seems partly is blank, partly it has a recording. The condition is excellent, with hardly any loss of the wax coating, and it is perfectly round. Provenance: The EMI collection.
Bell and Tainter developed aroung 1887/'88 a wax-coated cardboard cylinder for the Graphophone, an improvement over Edison's tinfoil-covered cylinders. This wax coating allowed for better sound fidelity and longer recording times.
