Description
I am selling items from my personal collection formed over 40 years. I am not a dealer so I know the history of these records, many of which I bought new at the time of release and have carefully stored (mostly in plastic sleeves) in a smoke free house. I have never cleaned my records apart from the odd use of a record brush or cloth so they are in very original condition. If you have any questions please email me.
T. Rex UK test pressing album: Futuristic Dragon
Original pressing by EMI for Marc's own label: BLN 5004
Matrix Numbers: BLN 5004 A-1 G & BLN 5004 B-1 G
This is something you don't see everyday. This is a copy of the very first pressing of the album and so has a white label as it was intended to be used to check the quality of the stampers before mass production began. Normally only a handful are produced and are sent to the artist, management and record label so that approval can be given for release. Occasionally they are used to promote the album and sent to reviewers, radio stations etc but then they normally have the tracks, release date etc written on the blank labels. In this case it was used to just check the quality and probably only 3 or 4 were pressed. Album white labels are far rarer than for singles. So, if you miss this one then you may never get another chance.
Condition: this has good looking vinyl with no obvious faults and few spindle marks so little played. It has "George" written on the label and the only George I can think of is George Underwood who was the sleeve designer and friend of David Bowie but it could have been written anytime by anybody. Test pressings normally do not come with album sleeves so this was probably added later and is in poor condition being tape reinforced and written on. The only unusual thing about it is that the spine details are written on the front. Not seen this before. I grade conservatively and only list an item as mint if it is still shrink wrapped unlike most sellers who are optimistic to say the least. That way my buyers are more than satisfied and reflect this in my feedbacks. Please check them for yourself.
I normally send the records in a professional record mailer by first class signed post to ensure that they arrive quickly and in great condition. If you buy more than one item I am happy to combine on postage costs with the second vinyl normally being free.
