Description

Charlie Parker Dial Records 901: "The Bird Blows the Blues."

  • Scarce, hard-to-find 12-inch vinyl 33RPM mono compilation LP, with red and yellow circle label.


  • Dead Wax Runout: Side A: DLP-21; Side B: DLP-22. Both sides also have what is called a "plastylite ear" in the runout. (It is actually the letter "P" from the Plastylite vinyl record pressing plant in North Plainfield, New Jersey.)

  • The text in the first column on the back side of the album jacket gives some background on this double collection of Charlie Parker improvisations on the traditional blues theme: "The 901-A side consists of the original first master selections as issued by the Dial label on 78 rpm and 10-inch records. The 901-B side consists of previously unreleased second master selections of the same tunes."


  • Condition:  The record has clearly been cared for over the years, and it plays beautifully, with excellent audio quality. There are no scratches or blemishes and no spindlewear. The vinyl has a slight wave, with no noticeable effect on the playback. The album jacket is sound and clean, with strong corners and no marks, splits, or wear.
