BOB MARLEY: The Ghetto Boy who became Reggae King
MERRY-GO-ROUND - The Family Fun Magazine
(Vol. 3 No.4 Fortnight ending June 17, 1981)
- This is another SERIOUS COLLECTOR'S ITEM for any SERIOUS MARLEY fan and once again, I can't believe that I'm giving it up, it's been one of my MOST-PRIZED possessions for years. :o( I came across this in the early-80's and have tried my best to keep it in good shape...it's in GREAT shape!!
The periodical/magazine comes straight outa JAMAICA and features numerous ARTICLES ("Bob Marley: The Ghetto Boy Who Became Reggae King", "He Was No Ordinary Musician Or No Ordinary Man by PRIME MINISTER EDWARD SEAGA", "Those Banned Songs", "Marley's Fame: Influence Reached Deep In Black Communities", "Bob Marley Learned The Message Of Survival From Boyhood'", etc.), PHOTOGRAPHS (many LIVE shots, old WAILERS shots, the Family, receiving gold records, at Sunsplash press conference, an entire page devoted to "The Moods Of Bob Marley", another full page spread from the FUNERAL entitled "TRIBUTES IN SONG...AND DANCE" [I Threes singing, one of ZIGGY & STEPHEN dancing in suits and one of CEDRIC BROOKS leading singers and players in front of a LION OF JUDAH banner!!!], one more full page with the casket on stage and procession out of the venue called "THE FUNERAL RITES" and a two -pager, "MOURNING A SUPERSTAR" [featuring pics from the procession of the GOVERNOR GENERAL, POLICE COMMISSIONER, PRIME MINISTER EDWARD SEAGA, MICHAEL MANLEY and finally MAMA BOOKER and widow RITA, along with many more), ADVERTISEMENT TRIBUTES (such as Mutual Life, AQUARIUS RECORDS[see pic], THE I.C.D. GROUP OF COMPANIES[see pic], JAMAICA PEGASUS, BIG YOUTH RECORD CENTRE and TRADES UNION CONGRESS), "THE LYRICS OF BOB MARLEY" (COMING IN FROM THE COLD, REDEMPTION SONG, COULD YOU BE LOVED, FOREVER LOVING JAH, WORK & ZION TRAIN...further in the publication WE AND DEM can be found), etc!!!
ALL of the pages are intact with some minor edge tears, really in NICE SHAPE!! The front cover is printed color...AS WELL AS the AMAZING fold-out POSTER that spans the entire TWO pages of the paper's center and features a FULL SHOT (from dread to toe!!) of Bob singing at the mic with his guitar in hand (JUDY MOWATT can be spotted over his shoulder!). The fold-out is framed in nice ITES, GOLD & GREEN and is printed at the bottom with "HON. ROBET NESTA MARLEY, O.M. February 6, 1945 to May 11, 1981", truly BEAUTIFUL and a photograph that I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE (measures aprox. 17" x 24")!! This magazine/newspaper is 24 PAGES in length and is about 17" x 12" in total size when closed up!! I can't even stress how special this has been to me but I'm in the need so someone's getting a real piece of HISTORY here!!!
