Description
A super rare collectible jazz classic, an original late 50's blue label STEREO pressing of Bethlehem lp BCP 6027 - ART BLAKEY BIG BAND. This one-time Blakey led big band includes JOHN COLTRANE, DONALD BYRD, MELBA LISTON, JIMMY CLEVELAND, AL COHN, WALTER BISHOP and others. Of the 8 titles, 2 are "quintet" sides - a one-time combo comprising TRANE, BYRD and the rhythm section., performing Byrd's "Tippin'" and COLTRANE's "Pristine". The big band titles are "Midriff", "Ain't Life Grand", "El Toro Valentine", "Kiss Of No Return", "Late Date" and "The Outer World". Trane is the principal soloist on most sides in this album - all of which were recorded December, 1957. Lengthy, informative liner notes by esteemed jazz musicologist/critic NAT HENTOFF. The deep groove disc is a handsome VG+....played sparingly and very well cared for. Labels have a warehouse stamp "S" on them. Cover has some storage wear and the bottom seam has a 4 or 5 inch split in the middle but the cover is fully intact. The same small "S" warehouse stamp appears on the back of the cover. Seldom seen, much less in stereo, this extremely collectible album is a challenge for all TRANE-ophiles. Here it is in sparkling shape! We grade conservatively - check our hundreds of positive feedbacks and bid with confidence. We do NOT sell repros or bootlegs, only original records.
