Here's a great write up about this legendary LP:
Probably one of the RAREST of the Alshire/Somerset label exploito psych stable - this one NEVER shows up, and it hasn't been reissued either. And here's the REAL reason you need this - unlike the other albums who blatantly repackage the same songs/backing tracks under new names, most of the Orange Groove's songs are originals - the only cover is the Tommy James title track. And unlike the other albums, whoever recorded this one had to be TRULY f*%$d up! No half-hearted Hammond-led toe-dipping into go-go psych here, kids - this one dives fully immersed head first into acid-riddled mayhem. And the fact that it succeeds less than half of the time only adds to its demented beauty - this thing's more "out there" than anything else on the planet. How else can you explain a thing like "Street King" - whose female Smurfette on helium vocals battle with big shards of ripping fuzz guitar and liquidy Hendrix-inspired rhythm? And what to make of lyrics like: "The Street King snaps and his friends come running, He doesn't take it from no one yeah, He had to fight to be someone yeah, Aaaaaah, and I love him!" You gotta hear it to believe it, really - either the Orange Groove were consciously trying to recreate the feel of a Bollywood soundtrack, or David Seville was looking to enter the AIP biker flick theatre. "Land of Fusan" puts CCR in the middle of Southeast Asia, while "Can't You See I'm Right" sounds like Fever Tree covering the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds." And the pulverizing phlanged-out excess and eardrum-smashing siren strings that drench the go-go shaker "Bad Trip Back to '69" (the only track I recognize from previous Alshire albums) is truly the stuff of some really bad acid. This is the grandaddy of all exploito psych albums - the true demented classic - next to the Orange Groove, all the others are mid-80's Air Supply albums.
Vinyl has some light wear but plays great. Jacket is very clean and is still in shrink.
